I wonder why is there a difference in NSF allowance for NSFs in different services.

SAF PTE: $480
SCDF PTE: $420
SPF SC1 $480

SAF CPL: $550
SCDF CPL: $490
SPF CPL: $550

SAF 3SG: $800
SCDF SGT: $840
SPF SGT: $900

SAF LTA: $1180
SCDF LTA: $1120
SPF NSI: $1180

Since we are all NSFs, should the service be irrelevant to the allowance? Are we saying certain service are more senang that's why the allowance is less? Or certain service is less important hence no need to pay them as much?

For regulars I can understand if there's a difference as the rank structure is different. But for NSFs its pretty straightforward and its only those few ranks that a NSF can attain. So why the discrimination?

In case you think I made up the figures:

SAF NSF allowance from iPrepNS website

SCDF NSF allowance from SCDF website

SPF NSF allowance from SPF trainee handbook

That's not the only picture. There is also different allowances given for different vocations in SAF.

For example, a commando CPL has higher vocation pay than say an infantry CPL.

But I'm not sure whether an infantry CPL has higher or lesser vocation pay than a combat engineer CPL.

What you mentioned is understandable. In terms of rank pay, they all get the same, it's the combat/risk allowance that differs.

if i am not wrong, if u do the math of a normal sgt in army and a normal sgt in scdf,
the final pay after 2 years will be the same..
***I am not including risk pay etc cause that's a kinda different story*
what i mean is that, assuming such a senario
Army
bmt = 2 months [400]
sct = 6 months [500]
rest = 24-6-2 = 16 months [600]
total = 800+3000+9600 = 13400

SCDF
bmt = 3 months [400] 1200
sct = 8 months [450] 3600
rest = 24-3-8 = 13 months [661] 8600
total = 13400

I know the digits that i keyed in are wrong cause i really don't know what's the length of training for bmt sct etc...

But the picture that i want to draw is above.

I remember that last time someone brought up this point to the COA during a dialog session. During the dialog session, the COA mentioned that the case could be the one i described above.
However, the COA went to check it up and told the guy during POP parade. I don't know what the COA told him though...

tbh, I thought SCDF should be paid more due to the type of work they do, and they should be paid more imo.

and I often hear from my SPF peers that they earn more of the same rank

SCDF pay is reasonably more when u are in a specialised vocation like firefighter or paramedic... Otherwise pay them so much for what? Their recruit training is nothing but a few weeks physical training. Unlike SAF and SPF where u train to be a basic soldier/police officer.

true that you don't need to pay them so much, just a little more will do. I am not asking for them to be paid more than the amount listed, just saying they deserve their extra pay.

anyway, I was referring to the payscale put by TS, only the sgt's pay is (slightly) more than its SAF equivalent but lesser than the SPF.

I thought their job is doing real sh*t, like accidents, fire etc, almost like asking soldiers to fight a battle every now and then.
