Moi encountered a son and mother last night trying to return a bottle with the logo but the machine rejected it, I myself also not sure why. Maybe the machine nv update the barcode database? The barcode and printing looks clear to me.

EDIT: Machine vendor is SGRecycle

Governement says 99.99% reliable (they never publish but i assume else will be lots of downtime), so it must be user problem. Case close.

This is sign of incompetence
Say all the great things about themselves
But screw up all details and can't handle the aftermath

Perfectly fine cans that cannot be read and charge you 10 cents for cans that shouldn't be charged at all

Is there any statistics that how many more containers are recycled ? Before and after. If not, how to measure the success ?

It was during dining at some restaurants then found out diners not charged 10cents for containers and the restaurant recycle the can/bottles to get back the 10cents

Actually this one a bit grey area. If the restaurant pour out the drink for you in a seperate glass then they should not charge diners. But if the restaurant just give one cup of ice and the can, then you have the right to take the can with you.

Even if they didn't collect the 10 cents from customers, they have to pay the 10 cents to the system.
So even if they collected the 10 cents they didn't " earn"

The issue here is the large numbers of cans/bottles returned are not due to ppl recycling so the machines at the neighbourhood are really a waste of electricity and other resources

I think he is talking about those who just throw their cans into bins after drinking, basically not aware of this scheme

Wah here we go, some statistical anomaly lai liao...how ish govt going to resolve this issue?

Based on my own view, I think that based on that 5.5m over the last 4 months. The 1 billion number is most likely wrong as it probably includes other things like tetrapaks, bubble tea cups, etc.

One month if using 1 billion as the number, is about 83 million cans/bottles sold/used. So the return rate is about 1.65% right now.

i dun think it's barely used tho.. just maybe got peak/ off peak usage period.

they just cannot be bothered

between the scanning issues, refund issues. all for 10 cents? no thank you.

personally i drink finish just throw. i am not going to wash the can and keep to accumulate. crazy.

and so far i see mostly is boomers using the machine. bring baskets of cans to recycle. not sure where they got it from but oh well good for them i guess
