Thank you SEvsNK and MoneyFace. My reasoning is as follows

CPU : I initially wanted to go for the i5-4690 paired with a Z97 board. Since I wanted to cut cost a bit I decided to go one step down. I would rather have a bit of an overpowered CPU than choose what is adequate at the moment, just to hopefully prolong how long I use the CPU.

GPU : I would like to game at 1440p, however, since the good 1440p gaming monitors are expensive now, I had rather wait for another year. So, as long as the GPU can max out games coming out in the next 1 year at 1080p I will be happy.

I am leaning towards the GTX 970. From what I have read over the past year on the GPU wars I feel Nvidia tends to have better/regular driver updates for latest games and better software (GeForce Experience). Reviews also seem to consistently show that Maxwell cards run cooler than Hawaii. I am not in to modding games and hence I doubt I will need the extra VRAM on the 390. I am going to give the Green team a chance and if I am not satisfied then my next buy will be from the Red team.

Do let me know if any of my opinions are wrong.
If you check out https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/

Many users are currently having problems with recent drivers from Nvidia. Issues have been going on for a few months now.

Simple.
Get FLAT Cable.
They can go under the door.

Even if it can go under door, it will be a tripping hazard and cause inconvenience for everyone else. If you were in TS feet, will you still go ahead with that without feeling guilty?

Thank you Entry Level PC, arhjaye and MoneyFace.

I stay in a rented place with some other people. I tend to have the bedroom door closed when I am at home. The router, which is the Singtel Dual Band one (Aztech I think), is across the corridor (5 ft) from my bedroom door. I intend to try and figure out a way to get the cable in my room without obstructing the corridor, if I do then might not need the WiFi adaptor. This would help with gaming and also saving money.
Homeplugs?

That mere 200-300 MHz on these higher clocked CPU models won't be any bit overpowering more than a Core i5-4460. People aiming to be able to get more performance in the future will look at overclockable models since the overclocked state (at common overclocking levels, i.e. ~4.5 GHz) will reap a much more justifiable gain from the base clock. Yet again, many review sites have proven many current AAA games do not benefit even when current gen CPU gets overclocked to 4.5 GHz. So overclocking CPU nowadays is more of a novelty than practicality.

It is true that Nvidia drivers lately has been getting ever more buggy, but AMD still also got their own fair share of bugs. Reviews have also shown that GTX 970 often does slightly outperform the R9-390 (and even R9-390X) in many games by 1-2 fps, so it is not exactly clear slower. Though it has also been marred by its 3.5GB VRAM saga, further in depth investigation reviews have also shown that it did not affect gameplay to the extent of disruptive disturbance. And its much lower power consumption makes it a more compelling choice for me.

Thats all for the night. Gonna sleep now and wake up early to the poll station sianzzz...

Just get a Skylake setup, it is better in long term when you consider..

-ddr4 slightly more ex than ddr3, some even cheaper than local ddr3 if you hoot from amazon
-ddr4 overclocks better and availability and support will be around much longer
-Skylake-K overclocks easier than Haswell with more tweaking options to test.
-z170 boards have more useful features and availability and support will be around longer
-skylake on optimised programs can run 10-15% faster than similar priced haswell
-lastly, local availability of Skylake is great compared to other countries, not sure how long it will last as Intel has production shortages. It is cool to brag about the first! :D

No reason to save a few dollars on Haswell now. :D
