[DIY PC] How difficult is it?

I've inserted and removed CPUs several times including to troubleshoot and to RMA a mobo. Never ever bent pins before.

Get parts recommendations from bro here and do some reading before putting the parts together.. And those who want visual, there's youtube guide from channels like Linus Tech Tips, to show you step by step, so in general, it's quite straightforward.. Like what others mentioned here, once you get past inserting CPU into Mobo, the rest is about putting the cables into the right place and you're done! The feeling is quite good though..
