Hi all,

I have a DNS320 that just broke down few days ago. I've plugged in a USB SATA caddy on one of the disk and I can't seem to read the files through various softwares.

It was running RAID 1. I plugged one of the disk to my windows 7 PC, I can't see the disk structure/partitions.

Any hints/suggestion how I can go about getting the right software to read the files? Any help will be appreciated!

The disk should be using EXT-3 (or similar) file system that is not natively supported in windows.

To read the hdd, you will need to either:
1. Boot using Linux Boot CD (e.g. ubuntu), or

2. Install this driver in windows 7 (Ext2Fsd Project » Downloads ), or

3. If you prefer to access the hdd using a standalone software (rather than accessing it directly under windows explorer), http://www.chrysocome.net/explore2fs

Thanks for your help.

I found the issue is with my broken SATA cable. one of the solders connecting the end-cable is torn.

I swapped a cable and bam! the structures appears recognized by the hard disk. I was able to extract the files with ext2fsd / r-studio.

Cheers guys!

I upgraded to DNS-320L since my DNS320 is broken.
