Do I need to replace my monitor? Or is it fixable?

IMG-20230207-114901.jpg

Have been using it for 6 years and the warranty is definitely over.

Need input and recommendation as this is my first gaming monitor that semi died. 😞

Have tested, probably not GPU issue as the problem arise even after disconnecting the DP cable

try different input source, e.g. hdmi or displayport, then try different computer.

if all same means monitor gg, time to replace.

I'm also having the same problem although my spoilt area is smaller than yours and it keeps vibrating. It's the bar at the bottom that has lines on it. Removed display port cable and turned it on but it's the same. Not sure if i should repair or buy new one. It's a 240hz benq monitor.

Not worth, currently Acer got a gaming monitor for sale at $188.
I rather TS just buy that to solve the problem.

Good point. For me i would engage his service 1st because i am using an Acer Predator XB271HU 1440p IPS monitor. Cost me quite a bit when I bought at that time in 2016. I like to save the environment before I buy anything new, prefer to exhaust all my options. Side note, his diagnostic fee is free only charge repair. Downside, you have to carry in your monitor to his shop let him check for you. End of the day, boils down to TS choice. Pros and Cons. :)

Just messaged Richard and he said mine is a panel problem. No parts to repair and not worth to repair as well as panel is expensive.

Usually monitor spoil just buy new one.
Anyway that Acer gaming monitor at $188 is good deal.

Omg, how are you going to see in those conditions for a 6 years monitor?
I mean it time for a change already as the monitor is so cheap like dirt.

If getting monitor, it's best to get those with external power supply(brick type... similar to laptop). Most of the time, capacitors in the power board gone bad. If external power supply faulty, just go Sim Lim Tower and get a replacement. Cheap! Just for the fun of it. Open up the monitor and look for bulge capacitor. Capacitor is cheap but one must know how to replace it.

Had to disagree with this, if monitor and TV are like CRT monitor era easy to repair than
there will be lots of neighborhood TV repair shop.
The reality is that LCD based display are difficult to repair and it depends on what issue.

What you are referring is if the TV/Monitor cannot turn on, however some monitor
power supply are build in. For untrained hands if you dismantle the monitor without
due care it will crack and break the monitor.

Which is why brands like Samsung, Dell, LG etc. they don't repair the monitor.
They just do 1 to 1 exchange with the faulty monitor.
For monitor issue is either panel issue which is common since panel have a lifespan
or the board inside.

Nowadays monitor power supply are build in so are you suggest avoid these type of monitors
especially Dell monitors? TBH I prefer monitor with build in power, lesser cable and not to mention
easy to identify the issue.

If monitor cannot turn on means monitor issue, those with external power adapter could be
adapter issue but very unlikely. Since the power adapter is basically a step down transformer
supplying voltage to the monitor.

Can you repair the adapter? No, have to replace it, not to mention risk of electrocution is very high as you can see there is very large capacitor which stores high amount of electric charge.
If you touch it, you be shock.

If you read my reply, I said go to Sim Lim Tower and get a replacement power brick. I never say repair the power brick. I said open up the monitor. Acer monitor usually has a power board and logic board. The capacitors on the power board is usually the culprit. I once removed both the logic and power board of Acer monitor with good LCD panel. Bought from Aliexpress, a LCD driver and logic board and a firmware programmer. The seller provided the firmware. I used a spare laptop power supply to power monitor. It lasted for a few years until the LCD panel turned bad. This is just a hobby.
