My primary use of this DNS server actually is to detect the fastest IP from my network to the server and return that fastest server. The secondary use is ad blocking. So far so good.

Sometimes it might accidentally block some legit url like those google shortcut on WhatsApp. Didn't spend time to troubleshoot yet. Just disabled the private dns option on Android then turn back on again after seeing ads

What about you all? Do you all setup any?

Personally I used Pi-hole first, then Adguard Home with both OpenWRT and Asus router. Then I would use pfblockerNG-devel when I used pfSense as the main router.

Now I am lazy and just use OpenWRT built-in Adblock-fast for LAN clients. For WAN side, I use OpenWRT HTTPS DNS Proxy (DoH with Quad9, Cloudflare Family DNS and ControlD family filter, IPv4 and IPv6).

There are some websites which just do not like Ad-blocking, like Dongknows. Then you cannot really block Youtube ads just using DNS blocking. Last time I was using uBlock Origin. Now I just watch the ads...

I usually just use the default DNS for my mobile phone when I am outside. Occassionally I may use wireguard to access home network and in that case the home router DNS server is used.
