All this week the BBC was reliving the 1971 Indo-Pak war that led to the creation of Bangladesh.

So I decided to find this rather interesting documentary. Quite a remarkable victory too.

From a documentary and war buff's perspective it's interesting. Can watch if you like this kind of stuff.

But in a way this victory came a price for India...because it led to Pakistan quickly developing and having it's own nuclear weapons program to prevent further invasion and loss of territory. Within 6 years they had their first nuclear weapon.
But Indian military while not invincible and not as strong as China's, is probably the No 5 or 6th in the world.
India NK and Israel probably in the same category. USA China Russia top 3. France probably No 4.
Whether Britain is No 5 is up for speculation. Maybe they are or maybe 1 of these 3 is No 5.

No way that they can united into one.

Beside the love of curry, they have almost nothing in common.

yup. do noted curry is a generic term in India.

saying they love curry is like saying they love soup.

Different ethnic groups have different and like different curries.

India will never be a superpower nor should she, will only cause tensions.
In a way its best the status quo is maintained. India the regional power and Pakistan her main rival with the Pakistan military in full control of the nukes. Whenever Pakistan has a civilian ruler, lots of problems start.
Better to have the military in charge and just proxy wars with India through their support of terrorist groups against India.
Keeps everybody busy but not overboard into full war.

Not expert but think if not wrong, the differences, perhaps especially on the belief, form a major part of the split. Don't think its easy to come to term with that. And think IN prominence is more in its population. Unless superpower count population, if not think hard, given IN basic issues also haven't settle for much of its people. :s22:

It was stupidity of British to make one country out of Pakistan and Bangladesh... Both have nothing on common other than Muslim..
They have different language and culture..and are separated by vast distance...
British always did the divide and rule policy for it make itself easier to rule...

And the west Pakistan tried to enforce Urdu on the banglahs, the fighting started, thanks to this we have international mother language day.

Wow first time see people openly support terrorist nations like Pak.
You do know that Pak hosted terrorist groups like Al Qaeda which did 9-11 which resulted in overall antagonism towards Muslims and increased airline security.

Pakistan terrorist nation? Lolz...
You obviously don't realise that India rather have a known enemy - the terror groups which they can infiltrate and contain rather than have a Nawaz Sharif type, every time faces a problem starts a war.

They rather have am Imran Khan in the pocket of the military than a civilian leader who makes use of popularity and India bashing to survive...
