Does G2120 Support SSD Caching?

Just bought a G2120 but unable to get the SSD caching to work on H77 board. I am wondering if it support SSD caching?

AFAIK, ssd caching support is related to the board rather than the processor.

Which H77 board are you using?
First, you will need to check the manual to make sure the BIOS setting are correct.

Then install the manufacturer's Intel RST drivers. I have past experience where SSD caching wouldn't work with drivers downloaded from Intel itself.

I tot it is related to the board too.

I am using Asus P8H77-I. I was using 3570K and was running ssd caching without problem. Then I change the cpu to G2120 yesterday but I couldnt get the caching to work.

After setting the bios to raid, my mobo couldnt boot up, it will just go to the raid screen and show that both drives (HDD n SSD) are incompatible. Then it will return to the bios again.

Only when I set the bios to IDE, then it boot up without problem.

Hmmm...I seem to recall that for SRT to work, one of the hardware requirements is a Intel Core processor.

Hmmmmm. That means Pentium G2120 wont support Intel® Smart Response Technology. Thanks dude!!!

Didnt realise this features until someone pointed out that the Pentium series didnt fully support SSD features.

I see that your G2120 is now on sales too~ Will be hunting down a i3 processor like you too~

Glad that this thread helps you. Too bad for me :sad:, only realised after using it. WTF intel!!!! :s13:

No wonder when I tried to play with caching, it did not work. Intel is really sneaky here. I had the impression that a board that supports is all it need. :o

Faster OS boot up and start up of frequently used programs.

Gives you a compromise between larger HDD capacity and faster response times of a true SSD setup.

Hopefully MS would include software in Windows 8.1/Blue which would allow you to use both the SSD + HDD in one large array, and automatically swap files between the two drives based on usage... Something like Apple's Fusion Drive... Then no need to depend on Intel and their chips to perform caching...

I once tested a caching free-ware which worked relatively well on non-Intel approved hardware.

But it was quite a while ago, can't remember the name =:p

There are also quite a number of vendors like Crucial, OCZ who has products which comes with software designed for caching. These solutions work independently and free from Intel restrictions.

What's the advantage of using cache in realworld benefits?

The performance increase is noticeable with and wthout Smart Response. Unlike most other caching solutions out there, Intel's cache do read and write if I am not mistaken. Plus, you can have up to 64GB of SSD cache. ;)
