Planning to recontract to 10gbps from 5gbps, plan expires in 6 months, but wanting to start early.
At the moment, I use a basic gigabit RJ45 switch, to patch panel for PC, TV, PS5, wife PC. Flat comes with cat 6a. Using HB710 routers for mesh.
Now what I'm thinking is, getting something like a TP-Link ES210X to make use of the increased bandwidth https://www.omadanetworks.com/sg/business-networking/omada-switch-agile/es210x-m2/
So setup will be ONT > HB710 > SFP+ module > SFP+ port on switch > RJ45 to patch panel. Planning on getting a SFP+ module like https://amzn.asia/d/06hRuMDn (I will try find something cheaper haha.. with multiple data rates) so can negotiate the speeds. I also plan to use the other SFP+ port on the switch to link to the data point that my PC is connected at, to get higher download speeds.. and will upgrade my NIC to 10g
Now my question is, since now I'm only at 5Gbps plan (for the next 6 months at least), will this new setup allow my PC to actually get higher than 1gbps? Looks like the SFP+ ports on the switch only work for 1G or 10G connection? So will the SFP+ module negotiate down to 1G, making the upgrade pointless for now? Unless I use the 2.5G RJ45 ports?
