Domain registrars like NameCheap or Porkbun often have better deals compared to hosting companies. However, if you’re running a business and need reliable hosting along with your domain, it’s worth considering providers that offer scalable and secure solutions.
There are a lot more to lose when a hosting company fails to deliver for its SLA, to get the domain also locked down by the hosting company denies the owner from easily switching the hosting to another better company with better SLA and/or features.
Generally one can easily mapped a domain bought from a particular registrar to another DNS provider like Cloudflare or AWS Route53. Keeping the domain name registrar separated from the web/service hosting and also the DNS service provider provides flexibility for the owner to easily switch services that have more impact to the business or service.
For example, my domain is bought from Godaddy, but the DNS service is provided free from Cloudflare. my email service on that domain is hosted by Google App. Anytime I don’t like what Google App is providing with me for email service, I can always change instantly without any lock down on my domain name. There is very little to demand from Godaddy for my domain when it comes to SLA for name resolution performance because it is provided by Cloudflare. I could have change it to AWS Route53 if I really need it.
Hosting reliability is segregated from domain name registry and also segregated from domain names resolution.
