Living expenses? Mine was in late Feb, it cost me ¥7,500 including tax for a single room with breakfast. Dinner was at the snow festival event area.

i think i know which hotel liao. i find their train ticketing system very hard to understand. to get to tokamachi i need to transit to another line but dont know how to buy ticket.
Using a JR Pass or just single journey tickets? With Pass(es), it's quite easy.
if im only going to niigata and back to tokyo only need single journey ticket right?
I'm curious. Where are you flying into and out of Japan? If you're traveling from Tokyo to Niigata and back to Tokyo, that's gonna cost you 21,500yen for a return trip. Might as well get a JR East Pass (Niigata, Nagano). But if you're flying into Niigata, then yes, buying a single-trip ticket would be better.
looks like JR east pass more value for money. can use it unlimited times within JR east nagano - niigata lines?
what type of accommodation did you stay?
