hi guys,

any take on the following school. is it advice to enroll for the aviation mgmt degree programme. gonna graduate from poly with gpa of 3.5 and doubt i could make it to local UNI

IMO 3.5 still can get into local uni. Just depends on which course.

I guess you are talking about this degree from ERC Institute?

Do you have contacts with your desired company? your internship company?
Ask them if they recognise the degree.

Else, seek opinion from your poly's career/course counsellor or your lecturers/programme director.

Today there is so many recognised universities locally, NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD and the newer ones, SIT, UniSIM, Yale-NUS.
I am sure there is one for you.

okkk let assume that i do have a strong interest in aviation. And the above sch i mentioned is actually one of the recongized aviation school (leading sch actually) in worldwide but least recongized in sg.

so is it advisable just to chase my interest despite not being recongized or go local uni and work sth from there after i graduate

Anyway think about it carefully. Are you intending to go into the aviation industry or to go into a general industry?
If you go into an industry other then the Aviation industry, it would be abit pointless and all you can do it general stuffs as the cirriculum is very specialised.
Anyway if you want to join CAG, why not join them first then consider as they might sponsor you for studies once you are their staff.
If you are intending to be a pilot, might as well not do this degree.

as far as i know local uni do not offer any major or degree in aviation.

having a very strong desireto just go straight for a specialized degree cos a general degree is way too common in the market then.Every tom,dick,harry are oweing one.Hence it led me the idea of having a aviation degree and this also align with my interest.

My only concern is about its very own recongition. I wnder what are the employer thoughts about this school.

In other case, thanks so much for the 4 others replies but i notice one common based; all 4 of you guys seem to be aganist the idea of me enrolling in Embry Riddle.COuld u guys probably highlight why? i just want to weight those pros and cons about the school itself Thank you so much

I don't know what your diploma is,
For recognised degrees offered by universities locally, you can consider,

UniSIM BEng Aerospace Systems

If you are looking at more business management side,
- Any business degrees from a recognised singapore university will do.
- A general degree is only general when you craft it that way. Many business degrees locally offer many electives and specialisations.
- Local aviation companies will know that there is no aviation specialization in local business degrees, so my guessing is you will learn how to manage the aviation company through their graduate scheme.

Unless you have contacts with local aviation companies to ask them whether they accept the Embry Riddle Distance Learning degree,
- Seek assistance from your polytechnic's career counsellor or diploma director for advice and contacts.
- I will not run into a distance learning foreign degree without 100% confidence that it is accepted and recognised for local aviation company's graduate programme.

Hi,

EMbry riddle used to offer their bachelors program under joint partnership with UNISIM. This was taken out after ERAU decided to offer it on their own.

I wanted to take the MBAA offered by them, but it's looks too specialized and not sure whether is it worth the money spent. I dropped the idea no matter how into aviation I was.

BTW I have the name card of the admissions director for ERAU Singapore. Tell me if you need the contact number so you can ask her for more info.

Embry Riddle is very well-known for aviation and aerospace. Won't go wrong.

However, you really do not need an aviation related management qualification to get into the aviation/airline biz.

Which aspect of aviation are you interested in? I was from the airlines industry years ago.

You do know that if u want to go high, management level in airlines, the only airlines in SG are SQ, MI, Tiger, Scoot. Foreign airlines have mainly sales and ticketing and customer service staff in SG only, hardly management management staff.

So most people will probably aim for SQ. For SQ, doesn't matter what type of degree as long as it's from a prestigious university, meaning no distance learning programs.

Cargo airlines also different story....

hmm. tough choice man. WIth my current avg result (3.5 gpa), getting into our inflated uni is tough as well.Oh well i will how its goes.Probably gonna drop by their talks one day
