Instead of having a relaxing trip, we opted for adventure in Bali. We planned to trek and hike Mount Batur and Mount Agung. It was a good climbing experience especially Mount Agung as it was not an easy climb. We started the night trek (for both mountains) so we will be able to see the sunrise from the summit.

After 2 nights of rigorous activities, we planned a visit to Uluwatu Temple to see the sunset while watching the famous Kecak Dance. We stopped by Kuta for some souvenirs shopping for a few hours before we head to Uluwatu. After the Kecak Dance, we headed to Jimbaran Beach for dinner, by the beach.

We stayed in Ubud for 6 days in Taman Sari guest house which we booked through AirBnb. The hosts were very helpful to us, helped us arranged our transportation and recommended us with other activities or places to visit in Ubud.

I must say, I love Bali. The tranquillity of the place (maybe because we stayed in Ubud) attracts me the most. One day, I will visit Bali again when I decided to go to Lombok to try Mount Rinjani. Such a beautiful place.

It is advisable to get a guide for both hikes, especially for Mount Agung. For us, our host from the guest house arranged the transport for us to get us to the starting point where our pre-arranged guide was waiting for us. So, we didn't go through any agencies for arrangements so we managed to cut cost. We actually planned beforehand on the activities we wished to do before we reach Bali, so we passed our itinerary to our host and she advised us on the cost etc. We communicated through AirBnb messaging system and she was more than happy to make our trip worthwhile.

For Batur, it cost $25 USD/each, inclusive of guide and entry permit (I think).
For Agung, it cost $40 USD/each, inclusive of guide (he will provide coffee and food at the summit) and entry permit. If can, you may ask if you can get this particular guide called Wayan as he was such a helpful guide.

Transportation cost is not included though. I hope this helps.

Yup, the host arranged the transportation for us. She charged us based on distance.

For Mount Agung, there are two routes which is from Besakih Temple (takes 7 hours at least to reach the summit, hard mode) and Pura Pasar Agung (4 hours at least, normal mode). If you are fit and capable, you can try from Besakih Temple which you start at the foot of the mountain. If not, try the alternative route which I call it the shortcut route since the starting point is already at least 1,000m high.

I attempted the short cut route so we started around 1am. Believe me, it was tough as it was up slope all the way and it got very steep as well. It was quite dangerous cos it was dark and the terrain was harsh, so it's advisable to get a head torch cos you will need your hands to climb.

I can't say much about the original route but I heard it is a much tougher route cos you will cover more distance upwards. Our guide told us that starting time fot that will be around 9pm - 10pm. About camping, im pretty sure it's flexible but i think you will need to plan beforehand.

It's a good climb, I must say. I took 5 hours to reach the summit btw.

Yes, I love Ubud too. I went to Kuta before, and I don't really like it. Ubud is the best place (based on my experience) to be to relax and get away from stress.

Bro can PM me the contact of the guest house? How much did they charge you for transport?

I did agung before but at IDR500K per head from kuta. Around IDR300k for batur per head from kuta as well. Will be going back nov with some friends to do both again but planning on skipping the tour operators and going direct to guides. I also used Wayan the other time. He told me he can do a trip up for USD$40 and few of us can share that cost. So only thing is to arrange for transport(and perhaps guest house too) as we're planning to climb on the day we arrive.
