I will be in Hualian from 28-30 apr and will be staying at 七星潭渡假飯店(Bayview Hotel)..
There is a couple of questions I would like to ask the experts here.. As only me and my wife 2 person only..

Is it possible to explore Hualian here without booking a driver or car? If my mode of transport is a bicycle would it be easy for me to ride around like sightseeing or going around the city area?

Taroko gorge can be also accessed by tourist shuttle bus that operate from Hualien Railway Station. Go google 臺灣好行 and look under taroko shuttle.

The time interval is rather spread out and will still prefer to use those touts.

I got a driver for NTD3000, plus got him to drop me off at my minsu after the tour. Slightly expensive but a lot more convenient!

Ya but only 2 ppl not worth to hire a driver..

There is a tourism office outside hualien train station. Plenty of locals offering tours+lunch. Decent pricing and serves as local guide instead of self exploring. Just a little bit more for comfort and all.
