hi,

wonder if anyone here convert their external harddisk by removing the casing and using it in their NAS ?

have some old external harddisk like 500gb or few 1tb and like to put it in my nas.

wonder if the external casing can be removed and put into computer or nas ?

next question,

what do you do with your harddisk that are no longer working ?

just chuck it into dustbin ?

how to make sure no one can recover the information on the harddisk ?

tbh i don't throw my old hard disk in nas, i just throw them away, e.g i rather run 1x 4tb compared to 2x500gb, save electricity and space.

for disposal i usually use programs to wipe aka fill with zeroes or ones. the number of passes depends on how kiasee u are. if lazy just use drill and drill afew holes into the platter. should be corrupt enough ba

Some external HDDs are normal HDDs inside.

Some have specific mobile-use-only firmware or does not have SATA connector and instead has USB.

Do homework before buying.

Just disassemble the drive and break the platters.

It costs a few thousands to data recover a working drive, are you that important that people would pay a HDB flat to recover prawn from a platter in bits and pieces?
