hi guys, i just received this ORICO external HDD dock from shopee:
https://shopee.sg/product/29641888/411241339

However every time i plug in the dock with my HDD into my PC using USB my whole PC hang, while the dock seems to be busying loading something (seeing the led blinking away).
I waited quite awhile and the system does no seems to recover so no choice I had to unplug the USB, and by doing this (a few times) i seems to have crashed one of my HDD...:(

Anyone know what was going on?

The HDD was already having issues that is why it hangs the PC when you plug it in. It is not able to read a sector and try again and again and again and the PC is just waiting for it to finish.

If TS pc is a desktop, open up and plug direct into sata port and see if can boot to desktop or hang at bootup stage.

I got a few hdd and all seems to give the same issue. Sounds like the dock is the problem? Scared to try more times.

Could be. Try using a different USB port. Had a case that happened like yours, then I thought the enclosure/HDD got issue. After swapping USB ports, it worked fine. Can also try a different cable to rule that out

.
Likely dock or usb cable got issue. Most likely Dock sata connector, the sata port simply worn out with constant insert and removal.

Ok, I managed to test the dock and the HDDs on my old PC with win7 and everything works, both on USB 2.0 and 3.0.

However when I bring the dock and HDDs back to my new PC with win10, i can only get them to work on USB 2.0, once i plug them into USB 3.0 either the PC hang or it will just keep on loading. i tried plugging my iphone and a thumb drive into the USB 3.0 and they work normally. What's wrong??

Are you using the USB 3.0 cable that come with the dock.

Try to use another better quality USB 3.0 cable.

Not all USB 3.0 cable are made with quality check.

Recently did encountered similar issue with USB 3.0 cable as when use a better quality cable it works.
