hi all, anyone experienced issues with their face ID recently?

i have been using it daily, but all of a sudden it does not seem to recognise my face anymore.

i tried to reset face ID but now i can’t even set it up, it’s forever telling me to shift my iphone higher/lower etc etc

is this a hardware issue? just want to see if anyone else has experienced this, thanks in advance!

If you reset and still can't get it to work, just go to Apple store to let them have a look. T

just to update everyone here:

apple concluded that my sensor wasn’t working, and they did a 1-1 exchange for me..

my warranty was till february 2020, so they extended it by 3 months from today, solid service!

just want to create awareness for those experiencing issues with face ID, i do not have applecare+ just the normal 1 year limited warranty

Yes, seems like if they replace a component they will extend the warranty for extra 3 months. Solid after sales service there.

I had exactly the same issue with my Xs in late nov, which is just around 1 month before my std warranty expires.

Went down to Genius Bar and got a replacement set immediately after they tested the set, as the faceID sensors cannot be “repaired” as it is somewhat linked to the motherboard, thus it’s a 1-1 replacement. I have to say that I am extremely impressed.

Just seen this thread. Sadly I had a similar problem on my iPhone XS and went down to Apple Store in Dec to check and hopefully get it fixed. However, since it had passed the 1st year (bought Sep 18), they would only allow for replacement by paying $800+. Couldn't get them to give a free 1-1 replacement.

Unsure why face ids have had so much issues (I think touch ids are more reliable) but the worse problem is that the component can't be replaced and the whole phone needs to be replaced.

I've never gotten applecare on my phones before, but "downgraded" to iPhone 11 with a cheaper applecare now.

Anyone knows where to sell a fully working iPhone XS with non-functional face id?

Apple says Face ID is now 30 percent faster with an improved performance at a range of distances. This is Pro 11 yeah.

It can also scan a user's face from a greater range of angles, though Apple hasn't gone so far as to claim that it can scan you when it's lying flat on a table in front of you. Like the face masks now ah.

Lol I don’t know why you deem getting iPhone 11 over your XS Max is a downgrade. It’s definitely not.

the face ID issues usually
stem from water damage

Was on XS (no max). But why do you think going to an iPhone 11 a clear upgrade? Iphone 11 doesn’t have an OLED screen, is bulkier, harder to use one handed and has no tele lens.
I think the clearest upgrade is the battery life but I didn’t really have much issues with the Xs battery life either.
