if my toddler leaves before he is 2 years old and when he comes back he is say 2 years 3 days old.

The outbound tickets are discounted as he is below 2 years. I know that by most airline policy the inbound tickets is no longer similarly discounted as he is 3 days over 2 years

Question is:
1) Anyone of you able to get the inbound ticket still at the discount?
2) How does the airline check since the ticket for outbound and inbound has been bought before he is 2 years old?
3) Let's say he bought the inbound at the below 2 discount...say at the airline counter, they discovered he is 3 days older, is it just a simple matter of topping up the difference?

Thanks for any advise.

I've not encountered such situation. But the difference between a lap infant ticket and a child ticket, can be quite substantial, where the lap infant pays like 10% adult fare plus taxes and comes without a seat, and a child ticket comes with a seat and almost full adult fares (airlines give varying discounts for child ticket over adult ticket). This also means there must be a seat available for you to change a lap infant ticket to adult ticket. Last minute changes at the airport could also mean you are paying the full fare ticket instead of discounted ticket (with child discount, if applicable).

Please check with the airline you are intending to fly, before making the purchase.

If you want to be really really sure, then you can pay for a seat for the infant, meaning you pay the child fare outbound and inbound.

Better to pay the 2 to 12 years old child fare ...
if not u go to check in counter, they check the passport and your ticket
they have the right to reject u ...
and ask u buy another ticket, as the child is no longer infant .
u might wanna check with the airline

Hi,

Different airlines have differing policies, it is best to check with the airline itself.

For SQ, if fly outbound less than 2 years old, inbound is more than 2 years old on 1 single round trip / open Jaw PNR ticket, the total fare of the whole journey will be charged at infant rate.

Of course, since its infant rate, the return trip will not have seat allocated for the infant.
