Right, so it is competitive with Lian Li then, will definitely take note next time I'm shopping for a case. I think my perception was skewed by the earlier models like the Focus G which were Cooler Master level value cases, so now when they're asking $200 I'm a bit taken aback but they've moved upmarket I guess. Airflow is definitely a good selling point though with that level of fans, none of that tempered glass blocking intakes either which is imo especially terrible in our climate.
Focus G is not one of their better cases. I would say R4 and R5 was a significant step up from the Focus G, but even then they're only good for their time, but not so great nowadays. Their design aesthetic may be a bit boring, but I like the simple look. I think the main reason why I like them is that they have many different cases, design for very different uses.
- Air flow - Meshify, Torrent
- All rounders- R/S series.
- For NAS - Node series.
For me, I went with a R6 during my overhaul about 2 years back, and I'm very happy with the choice. Modularity of the design, decent inbuilt cable management. IMO, they also make the best cases for users who wants to put a lot of hard drives into the case, and doesn't want to build a separate NAS. Also, easy to remove mesh filters make regular cleaning of dust very convenient - I just pop out the filters out every 3 months or so, rinse and dry with a blower and leave to air-dry for an hour before popping them back on.
I have been considering a Torrent for a while, but am just trying to figure out if I can fit it into my use case.
