Funny wake on lan issue

I managed to set up my win10 ryzen to wake on lan through the internet and on LAN.

if i wake 3-5secs after it shuts down, it works, anything longer, even just 10 seconds and it no longer works.

any ideas?

I already ran a wake on lan script by Asrock, made sure it hibernates instead of shutting down, BIOS and all that fancy jazz enabled.

Just weird that it doesn't wake 10secs in.

sorry, no experience with WOL with ur specific mobo but i found a few threads or links u might be interested in.

1. BIOS setting:
Step1: Power on the system.
Step2: When POST screen is displaying then press the keyboard "Del" key to enter to the BIOS setting.
Step3: Switch to Advanced page, select ACPI Configuration, change PCIE Devices Power On to Enabled.
Step4: Press "F10" key to save the BIOS setting and restart the system.

2. Network adapter settings:
Step1: Start Windows and open Device Manager.
Step2: Expand "Network adapter", right-click "Intel (R) I 211 Gigabit Network Connection", and click "Properties".
Step3: Select the "Power Management" tab.
Step4: Please check "Enable computer to release standby state on this device".
Step5: Next, click the "Advanced Settings" tab, select the "Wake on Magic Packet" from the "Property" column, confirm that the "Value" is "Enabled" and click the "OK" button.

3. Check the power option:
Step1: Open the Power Option item in control panel.
Step2: Click the Choose what the power buttons do link.
Step3: Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
Step4: Clear the Turn on fast startup(recommend) check box.
Step5: Click Save changes.
After above setting, WOL function should work properly.

I found a forum post somewhere that downgrading the nic driver a few years solves it apperently. But I gave up at that point.

Ok .. i got reply from Asrock support which confirms that PC can only remote wake from Sleep or Hibernate ... but strangely, the Remote Wake still does NOT work on MeshCentral but Remote Wake works on Splashtop ...

I'm assuming that they are using magic packet to wake the PC so MeshCentral's magic packet might have some problems that Intel Remote Wake is not recognizing .

The "Power off" of Meshcentral will let the system go to S5 sate instead of S3/S4.

So that it will not be able to waken after the proedure.

Well. fixed it myself in the end; tried every single option in Windows managed wake up events to no avail. Then tried again with BIOS managed settings, and everything was the same, not waking up.

In the end, tried downloading the Intel branded drivers (instead of the Windows Update ones) and then I saw the light: the Intel drivers exposes several new options in the Power Management tab: Wake on Pattern Match (I disabled it) and Wake on Magic Packet from power off state (Disabled by default - I enabled it). Then I powered the system off and there was light in the link/activity LEDs. Very promising. I fired some magic packets towards the NIC's MAC and boom, it worked like a charm. There's also a Wake on Link Settings option, but that just made my PC to turn on right after being turned off.

my board is a b450m pro4, uses realtek.

tried em all, doesnt work. even when i go in to Hibernate, it doesnt work.

will try Sleep later, shutdown PC too many times to test, afraid it might go nuts.

owning two ASrock board,

apart from DJ Pork Chop's guide, this is what you might miss out. on the Ethernet Adaptor Settings you are missing a function call Wake on "Magic Packet from power off state"
download the Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for IT Admins which contain the Intel® PROSet Adapter Configuration Utility

launch the Intel® PROSet Adapter Configuration Utility as administrator

under the Adapter Settings, scroll down and select "Magic Packet from power off state" and enable it. do not forget to click on Apply Changes.

Yeah but my board uses a Realtek NIC, not very sure about downloading Intel drivers.

Device Manager>Network Adapters > Double Clicked on motherboard network adapter > Advanced tab

Set "Energy Efficient Ethernet" or "Green Ethernet" to Disabled

Hi Ali,

This issue occurs if the Net BIOS under TCP/IP is enabled. Let's try to disable it by following these steps:

1. Go to Control Panel, then click Network and Sharing Center (or simply right click on the Connection icon on your task bar, and click Open Network and sharing Center)

2. On the right pane, click Change adapter settings.

3. Right click your network adapter and select Properties.

4. Highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP) and choose Properties,

5. Click Advanced... button on the lower part of the window.

6. Next, go to the WINS tab, and in NetBIOS Settings section select Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

7. Click OK and restart the PC (Important).

Once you're done, update us with the result.

another one i found, perhaps u can try also.

if it is an issue with realtek driver, maybe can consider downgrading to one of its prev versions.

if that doesnt work, a funny solution i thought of, maybe can go buy a cheap pcie nic card. then use that one wol to try. cheap one cost about 3 dollars, bought off aliexpress some time ago.

Good tries everyone, I'm pretty sure your problem ain't solved even if you follow all the advice.

Here's my take, ARP is the cause. You need static ARP to solve the issue.
