Season greetings,

I received my G751JY-T7128H (Singapore Harvey Norman store model) 1 day before Christmas eve. I bought this notebook at Sitex and got a good deal on this machine (Paid $2.5k+ for it without taking any of the freebies, it still comes with the bag, mouse, headset and leap motion controller). Am loving every bit of the machine.

Just a few issues that I noticed. Nothing too serious that would stop me loving this baby... but here goes

1) The sound is tiny compared to the old G73JH that I used to own. Selecting the Off option in the ROG audio wizard helps alot.

2) No PCIE SSD in the first drive !!! The ones here just have a normal Sata SSD and yes it comes with 1 Sata 3 and 1 Sata 2 port here as well. 128G SSD as the first drive and 1TB 7200 HDD in the 2nd drive.

3) No Asus backtracker or any recovery CD option. Only the standard recovery partition.

4) Blu ray drive keep popping open at random every few hours. Might have touched it accidentally a few times but it opens even when the system is unattended other times

Things I love

1) The GTX 980M graphics card !!! Been trying out the older games at max settings. CS:GO, Skyrim, Saint Row 4, COD MW3, Tomb Raider ....
This baby chews em and spits them out with little effort at all. Even newer games like Diablo 3 at max settings with 4 players ingame runs buttery smooth.

2) Beautiful screen. Will run at 75mhz once you upgrade the graphics driver.

3) I like the new touchpad... some old ROG notebook users might remember the crap touchpad we had to put up with in the past.

4) Build quality seems solid at the moment. My old G73JH lasted me 3+ years without ever needing any warranty service. This ones seems to be built the same way hopefully.

Thanks & Merry Christmas

for me the its weight is a big down point. if i were to carry this around it'd be damn heavy including the power brick probably around 5kg or so. definitely not for ppl who wants to bring their laptop around. also why fit only 4gb of vram into such a big laptop im sure asus couldve fitted an 8gb gpu like the msi gt72 inside this big chassis of it!

2 deal breakers for me though. on a side note the price for this is really very attractive!

I think the reduced video memory is to bring down the price. The thing about the graphics card on this notebook is that it is part of the motherboard. It is not using the MXM interface which allows the card to be changed.

PCIE SSD boot up in 2-3 secs Isit ? Double the speed of SATA SSD?

No. PCIE speed for SSD no difference from MSATA ones currently.
Macbook ones are faster because the OS is optimized.

If you really optimized your mSATA, it can hit really faster boot up speed.

We ever optimized one for our customers who purchase an Asus UX32VD to boot up within 3.7 seconds on a normal SATA SSD. :)

Great!

If you really want to improve speed, you can always upgrade the 24GB SSD at later stage and put your OS and games in the SSD. :)

How do I check if my OS is installed in my SSD ?

right click my computer, choose 'manage' then choose 'disk management', it'll show you all your drive volumes (including optical drives) as well as what physical disk they exist on (since 1 disk can have multiple drive partitions); right click the disk and choose properties and it'll show you the model of the disk and you can check if it's the model of the SSD that you're expecting to see.

If as you mentioned, your SSD is 24GB then the OS is probably not on there. You can sort of intuitively tell by the boot time whether your OS is on a mechanical or solid state drive anyway because there is quite a difference in timing.

SSD will be more better for loading games, video rendering ,copy or transfer file.
Windows 8 actually startup is faster compare windows 7.Hopefully windows 10 will more powerful and stable.
