Hey experts out there, I'm a rookie here and I would need some advice and guidance in helping me to build a gaming pc. As I am somewhat on a budget of $1500, the pc build below shows what I will most likely be building:

cpu and mobo:i5 6400 and b150 gaming m3
graphics card: sapphire r9 390 8 gb tri-x
ram:g.skill ripjaws 2x4gb ddr4
ssd: Crucial 240 gb
hdd: WD blue 1tb
psu: cooler master semi-modular V750S gold
case:fractal design core 2500
os: windows 7/8/10(reddit)?
monitor: not needed

Also, the dilemma here for me is that is it worth to run a cpu and mobo with a ddr4 ram as compared to the use of a cpu and mobo like i5-4460 msi pc mate h97 running on ddr3 ram based on price/performance? and also will it bottleneck the performance of the r9 390? for gaming wise

Advice from you guys is much appreciated. :)

Ddr 4 is better because from later this year (i think) no one should/will manufacture DD3 boards anymore. Also price differential isn't that great.

It will not bottleneck the r9 390. Not sure if your board has 4 ram slots or 2. I hope it has 4 (lazy to check). If its 2, upgrading the rams in future will be tough (got to sell the old one and buy 2 new ones).

Also run windows 7. I dislike 8 and 10.

Neither CPU will bottleneck the GPU. You do pay more for Skylake with little difference in performance. However, it is the newer platform. You have to decide for yourself whether it is worth the premium. Forget about future proofing. Intel is fond of changing sockets and there is no guarantee socket 1151 will not be replaced in the next couple of years.

In Intel's defense, I changed to Sandy Bridge 4 years ago using DDR3 1336 Hz Ram. Today I can still use DDR3. Going by that logic, I would assume DDR4 to be in use 3-4 years later but definitely not DDR3.

Edit: having said that, historical benchmarks is no indication of future behavior. :)

what is your current rig?

If you are using Sandy Bridge or above, just buy a r9 390 will be good enough to play most of the games on market and can run at 1440p if you decided to change a monitor.

haswell and ddr3 are better if you are on a budget, and no it won't bottleneck.

If you have existing ddr3 ram you can still go skylake and buy a cheap end board which supports ddr3 ram.

For Windows you can buy from kinguin if you want to use paypal and feel safer.

Case wise i would go for Define R5, just a personal preference.

Everything else is fine, great psu also.
