Gaming+Project Laptops

Hi bros,
I am buying a laptop for both gaming and school project. I would be running programs like Adobe photoshop and for the gaming i usually play dota 2 , skyrim and cs:go. My budget would be around 1.2k - 2k sgd if can minimize the cost would be good! Currently been reading thread that mostly ppl recommend Y500. Any bros can give some recommendation and advice

bump. no help? i've read that aftershock y500 and samsung chrono are probably the most recommended for this price range? 1.5-2kish.

looking at the aftershock XM17 myself. any recommendations for a couple of tech newbs?

will you be bringing it around often? is weight a concern ?

I personally is a user of both y500 and samsung chronos 7 2013.

if need to use for school project you might need to factor in battery life and portability. 17.3" may not be such a good idea.

Y500 you should go to shop and try the keyboard/touchpad cos there seems to be mixed reviews on the quality of both I think.

IMO the keyboard of y500 is good, even better than chronos 7. typing on it feels good. but the touchpad is really

and yes, TS might want to factor in portability and battery life if you are bringing it around often. y500 is a good gaming machine at a decent price but sacrifices battery life and portability. best is u select a few model den go down SLS/Funan to try out the machine itself

Maybe occasionally whenever there's need for projects, as for gaming i don't wanna just buy a laptop mainly use for projects.
Anyway thanks for recommending! I saw Y500 at newstead which is about 1.9k. If the laptop is really worth it i can spend more than 2k but not too much :/

i got my y500 from the previous IT show at 1799 which is pretty worth it at that price. if you are not in a hurry, you may want to hold on till the upcoming PC Show, 6 to 9 June 2013. Y500 is good for high end gaming cos of the SLI, but not very portable (still more portable than most other high end gaming laptop like alienware and ROG). If you u are those who pak all those very upz games den long long time only bring it out once, can consider. Also heard that the gt750m variant of y500 may be coming to SG end may, which will be slightly better den the current 650m version.

For samsung chronos 7 2013, it is lighter and slimmer, the power adapter is also much smaller. battery life is about 3x of y500. but of cos ati 8870 is not comparable to 650m SLI in y500. pricing also around 1799-1899 by different resellers.

if you are not in a hurry, take this 1 month to figure out wat u really want and do some research online, and also go down shops to test out the demos. wait PC show come den wack

Any laptop with GTX 660M/GT 650M DDR5 can handle all the games you want to play at maxed settings smoothly on full hd resolution except for Skyrim but still can play on ultra settings with low/medium AA. Can take a look at MSI GE60, HP ENVY dv6, Lenovo Ideapad Y580/Y480/Y400.

haha, been looking at aftershock XM17, havent get to see samsung chronos. Hopefully i will get better pricing at it fair!
