I am taking up NTU Accountancy this year, and was just wondering if I should get the laptop from school or outside. The models that I saw that are in the school are slightly on the pricer side for me, but I was just wondering if there is a need/benefit to getting the laptop from school instead of getting it externally?

If you are on a budget, you can try getting chromebooks. They are cheap (<$500) and are fast in processing web pages.

Not sure if the Citrix app works with chromebooks, but chromebooks are fine for the initial parts of your projects (mine were mostly done on Google Docs). However, when you do get to finalising the report in Microsoft Office, I'm not so sure if chromebooks will be as handy as in the initial stages

If you do not need any programs to be installed for Accounting, chromebook is the best option.

1) Cheap (I got mine for S$430 new)
2) Fast processing (4s startup, up to 10 tabs opened on chrome, no problem)
3) Light
4) Good display (IPS 1080p display)
5) Smooth touchpad with multi touch gesture
6) SD card slot for memory expansion
7) Battery- 7-8hr
8) Keyboard customized for easy web browsing
9) Will not slow down over time (according to google, since it runs on a diff platform as windows/mac)

If you need microsoft word/excel etc you can always use office365 or google docs

My experience from using a toshiba chromebook 2
