Planning the itinerary for my Oct trip.

Few questions:

Should I stay in Alishan or Sun Moon Lake as both of the locations are able to view sunrise.

Is Hehuanshan worth to going?

What can do we do at Alishan beside watching sunrise?

Any places to go in Kaoshiung/ Tainan and Taichung?

Thanks

Sun Moon Lake is at taichung area.
Alishan is around chiayi area.

SML U need to take 3hours bus to taichung railway station (or 55min HSR), then another bus 3hours to SML.

If you wanna go cingjing in taichung, is also the same.
TMS 3hours (or hsr 55min) to taichung railway station, then 3hours bus to cj.

CJ and SML r few hours bus ride apart.

Taichung have gao mei, fengjia night market, yizhong street, cj, sml , etc

I stayed at FenChiHu 奮起湖 last November. It's like the 'waist' of Alishan. At about 4am our driver drove us up to the Alishan train station, where we got to queue and get tickets(which are limited) to board the mountain train up to the peak to view sunrise! kinda chilly, was about 9degreeC. Perhaps October will be slightly better. Slightly.

After the breathtaking sunrise can slowly walk-track-hike(basically just staircases x endless but with scenery) down to the train station, there's temple and many scenic areas within the mountain. Usually driver will pick you back up at the train station, then maybe drive you to tea plantations or visit the aborigine tribes, before driving you down the foot of Alishan/however your arrangement is.

As for Kaohsiung, usually people will visit Pier 2. If you're a scenic person you can catch your sunset at 西子湾 or even take a 5min ferry from SihZiWan to旗津(can find it at Fann Wong's Instagram about 2weeks ago hahhaha). Yup! Sunrise and sunset in Taiwan! Shopping in Kaohsiung can go Shinjuku 新崛江. Suitable for teenagers and young adults.

Hope the info helps, can't help much for Tainan and Taichung tho!

I don't think Sun Moon Lake and Alishan can be compared in such a way. Both are scenic destinations of a different character. SML is a lake :) Alishan is a mountain summit.

Have been to both and I found both to be enjoyable in their own way.
Lots of trails around Alishan Scenic area itself. Quite tiring due to the elevation! But in October it should be quite cool already (I went in Jan), so less sweaty.

Not sure if my friends and I have a crazy itinerary. :s22:

Will be reaching TW around 5pm, so we plan this..

Day 1 & 2 - Taichung
Day 3 - CJ
Day 4 - SML & ALS
Day 5 - KS or Tainan
Remaining days in Taipei.

Planning to book cab but still sourcing.

My friend was suggest to stay near SML and visit Hehuan Shan but I have the idea the HHS and Alishan is more to hiking. So should I be sacrifice one the attraction due to time constraint?

I've been to SML before but my friend has never been there. Can't recall anything much over there.

I did Taichung, followed by Cingjing, then Sun Moon Lake before in 1 trip. Did not go to Alishan until a subsequent trip to Taiwan.
Not sure if there's a direct road connection between Sun Moon Lake and Alishan. Otherwise it is a huge loop and by my estimates, not do-able in 1 day.

Overall I would say that your itinerary is pushing it. I guess it is what a tour agency might arrange as a "5 days explore Taiwan" kind of trip.

Anyway, IMHO if there's no season in Alishan like Sakura in March then rather pointless making the journey up..

If you can wait, I can tell you the feasibility. I will do almost the same next month.

Itinerary need to plan carefully in order to slot all in with the advice from experience driver.
