Help needed guys. I received a Samsung 960 EVO M2 SSD for my Christmas present. I heard that M2 is not supported by all motherboards. Does my motherboard support that? If not, is there other alternatives?

you probably need a M2 to PCIe adapter

but then again, since the remaining 2 PCIe slots is PCIe 2.0 x1 (assuming you got GPU), you probably won't get the best out of the M2 SSD

actually probably just need a cpu+mobo, or quickly scout for a 2nd hand IB mobo with more PCIe slots

Why dont you just sell the ssd, seems to be quite troublesome to replace so many components cause of it

Yup. The cost + time spent replacing the motherboard + CPU and also reinstalling Windows.. Yes.. Must reinstall Windows.. Because it needs to be configured to boot with the new Motherboard means you'll be spending a lot more time just because of the M.2 SSD.

So best option for now is to sell it off while you can still sell it at a slightly higher 2nd hand price.

I believe that you can still find a Z77 motherboard somewhere in SLS. This is the bare minimum that you can go for in order to use it.

Put your GPU into the second slot, and use a M.2 to PCIE adapter and plug it in to your first PCIE slot.

BUT before doing all this, make sure that your chassis meets the requirement for ATX size motherboard, cause in SLS i think you can only find Z77 in ATX size. I don't recall seeing a Z77 mATX size available.

In this way you will need to pay for a new motherboard and the new adapter. But if you think its very tedious and cumbersome to do so, then i would agree with the rest, sell the m.2 960 evo and buy a SATA based SSD. Which i kinda feel such a waste as you have a gift but can't be enjoyed lol.

SLS still got sell Z77?? LGA1155 boards are already EOL. I don't see them listed on price lists.

They dont list. But some shop still stash it somewhere in a corner.

If you want you have to ask. Not just that, warranty also might be an issue.
