If got another driver then can alternate, else maybe every 1.5 to 2 hrs take a meal/kopi/toilet break.

Highway hypnosis and sleeping behind wheels are very real for long distance driving.

Will travel to Sapporo / check in / explore the city

11th - 12th
Collect car rental
Drive down to Noboribetsu for 2 nights.

13th

Drive to Asahikawa
Check in hotel
Zoo
Ramen Village

14th
Daisetsuzan Asahidake Ropeway
Hokkaido Ice Pavilion
Drive to Abashiri
Check in hotel

15th
Drift ice
Tour around Abashiri

16th
Stay at Kushiro
Lake Akan

17th-18th
Drive back to Sapporro
Explore / final shopping

19th
10am flight departure.

that's a lot of driving .. I love the drive from Asahikawa to Abashiri on the highway .. it's Free !

i always dread the drive back from Obihiro to Sapporo .. always felt longer somehow. not much to do in between

some input, if not too late ...

1) since u arrive early, can pick up car on arrival, then drive to Nobo, save a day

2) from Nobo, go the reverse direction .. ie go to Kushiro first, then Akan, Abashiri etc

or on arrival from Chitose, go to Asahikawa directly .. and do Nobo last

Eastern Hokkaido, Akan region is my favourite .. I would spend more time there

Tokoro / Lake Saroma area ( near Abashiri ) has amazing scallops & cheap

Kushiro fish market is rather touristy

for Asahikawa ropeway, check the live cam and weather condition .. if it is not clear weather, better not to go as cannot see anything. usually I plan for 2 days as contingency when going up Asahidake

Tolls can be paid using Credit cards now .. i use YouTrip

The ETC 30% savings is on weekends and public holidays .. if your long drive falls on these, it would be worth to get.

coincidentally, i will also be in hokkaido from 11 to 19 Mar
