If it comes to this during Trump's time and it would not, but if it did...this is what Trump would do at the very early stage....2 choices because Russia already amassed troops at the border 2-3 months in advance:

1) instruct NATO that Ukraine would never be accepted as a member of NATO

2) immediately convene NATO and officially confirm Ukraine as a NATO member
