Graphic card died, PC cannot switch on when connected?

I encountered this curious issue.

The other day I was in the windows desktop when the computer just died instantly. After a lot of trips to service centers, CPU, mobo, RAM, etc were tested fine there.

So I put together everything again and powered on, there was a clicking sound but nothing happened. No LEDs, CPU fan didn't go on, nothing.

So just to try I pulled out the graphic card from the PCI E slot. It's a zotac 1060. I've been using it about a month already.

And then my computer could boot when the card was not connected.


I thought if the graphic card had a problem the POST would have some beeps, instead of the whole computer just refusing to power on?

Anyone encountered this before?

Sounds like PSU. Did you confirm it's working fine? I encountered 2 different psu that had this problem. Clicking sound, a split second turn on then off. Sometimes need to try a number of times before it sticks.

I'm using a brand new PSU now. Same problem with the previous PSU so I don't think so.

If its not psu, its prb a dying mobo.

It was the graphic card after all. Card installed, pc cannot power on. Remove card, pc can power on. Changed to a new card and I can now power on.
