Gtx vs quadro? 2gpu in one pc?

Hi all.


Currently, I use my pc for photo editing and some games. Experienced same sluggishness when running autocad for simple drawing,takes a while to apply hatch on some patterns.

Will it be faster to use a quadro p600 for autocad?

Will I be able to have 2gpu in one pc?

Will I be able to "switch" to appropriate gpu for respective application?

Pardon my limited knowledge of pc.

It used to be that the quadro and GeForce drivers will clash with each other... Need to check if they solved this already

Since u doing it for work, guess quadro should be better.

I don't think you can put gtx and quadro in the same mb. There is no software "switching". It's either or.

It actually depends on how complicated/big or how simple is your autocad drawing. For the simple one (drawing objects) you shouldn't have any problem with gtx. I'm drawing with integrated gpu without any issue for the small stuff with less than 5 layers.

Quadro has limited gaming capability but I'm not sure how limited.

Thanks all for the feedback. I may get one copy of quadro to test out. If can't have both simultaneously on one board, then no choice have to unplug and plug in the other.

Just get the quadro then. It'll run a bit slower with games but it beats switching cards out if it comes to that situation.

I think can be done, if you have GTX and a firepro, or a quadro and a radeon.

With both GTX and quadro, you need to have dual boot (either on 1 single hdd, or 1 os in 1 hdd - switch bootup order when startup), because there is no nvidia driver that can support both GTX and quadro at the same time in 1 os.

It is like ram, dual or single channel, and for graphics its either SLi/crossfire or two different graphics cards.

Linux can do so with manual invocation of DRI_PRIME, but only on the opensource Nouveau driver which is extremely slow.

Nouveau on any card newer than Kepler (which includes all Maxwell and Pascal) can only function on their base clock speeds, which completely defeats the purpose.

If on Windows, no chance. Get a second hard disk and install another instance of Windows in it to use the Quadro drivers. Or create a virtual instance of Windows, install Quadro drivers and do a GPU passthrough to the Quadrio card.

AutoCad is a single thread software, any C2D era PC can run AutoCad with ease on simple drawing with no large dataset and 3D modelling.

Check the virtual memory, let Windows manage it if you set it to customized.

upon activating hatch command, it takes forever for the process to be completed. hence was wondering which hardware component is the bottleneck..during that process, autocad doesnt seem to be hogging that much resource, seen form task manager..possibly software bottleneck?
