So a few weeks ago, my laptop showed an error whenever I boot it up. It says:

SONY-VPCJ118FJP.jpg

(Note: This is not my photo. Just found it on Google but it's basically the same error message I get when I boot up my laptop.)

I searched around and the only solution I get is to change my dying hard drive. My laptop is 4 years old already but honestly, I have a 6 year old laptop which still has a working hard drive. Well, I guess I just got unlucky about this particular hard drive.

I am now searching for a replacement but I have no idea what the market value of a 2.5" hard drive is in Singapore. I'm planning to get a 1TB one. I don't wanna get a SSD yet as I plan to buy a laptop next year when Uni starts and buy a laptop with a SSD + HDD combo (thinking of Aftershock).

I was searching Amazon and found this: http://www.amazon.com/HGST-Travelstar-2-5-Inch-7200RPM-Mobile/dp/B0097LG9U8/ref=sr_1_323?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1416114980&sr=1-323
I really have no idea what brand is reliable but I heard HGST makes good hard drives.

Hope to see really useful replies and thanks in advance.

In terms of hard drive, there is really no need to buy from overseas as there are little savings. It's different for SSD though.

So just drop by SLS to buy the hard drives.

Maybe u like to upgrade to ssd? Then u can save the money to upgrade

Nahh. I'm planning to buy a new laptop next year with a SSD anyway. I'm planning to just use this new HDD + the SSD in the laptop. I just want a temporary solution so I can still use this old laptop until I wait to buy a new one.

Why not change now, rather than spend $ on a hdd, then become useless after you got a new laptop?:s11:

I used to get that quite often and have changed a few hdd. I'm not sure if it's caused by the Rapid Storage software or something else. I change to ssd recently and don't get that anymore.

I would advise you to get an ssd. It's transferable anyway.
