WD Black 2TB failed with bad sector. :(
Please recommend 1 for reliability for data storage.

How about:
Hitachi Enterprise (5Yrs) 2TB $210
HGST Deskstar NAS 4TB 7200rpm $249
WD Black 7200rpm (5Yrs) 2TB $185

You need RAID if you want reliability.

Using RAID does not correlate with reliability. The weakest link is still in the choice of HDD you use. When one down you still need to replace it with a new one. It only makes operation restoration quicker via rebuilding array, rather than copying backup to new HDD under non-RAID scenario.

Sorry to hijack thread a bit,

Currently got 2 x 1TB WD Black running as storage drives (they used to be my boot drives)

1 Storage, and 1 Mirror of the Storage.

Is using 7200rpm HDDs for storage a bad idea?
Should I unplug the mirror drive if i'm not using it?

Why do you think it's a bad idea?
What mirror software do you use?

I heard that the disk running at a higher speed will wear out faster, compromising it's reliability. Not sure if it's true, any experts would like to confirm that?

I'm using an outdated Carbon Copy Cloner, back when it was still free.

due to your BIOS limitations, you can only choose anything <2Tb and besides it will be limited to 200+ MB/sec read/ write rate cos thats SATA 2 throughput
