harddisk or imac issue?

hi guys,

im running an imac 27" late 2012 model with fusion drive.

connected to it is my 4TB External HDD.

whenever i reboot or wake from sleep, the harddisk doesn't appear, i have to power off and on the harddisk before i can get access to it again.

this also occurs whenever i restart my mac. can anyone help?

Does your external HDD power down after a certain period of inactivity??? Could be that the HDD needed to be powered up after that.

i do believe my hdd does powerdown....but the thing is i can still feel is spinning after ive got back to my desktop

Just go to the disk utility there you can check your external hdd is it mounted or unmount

An external drive cannot be used as part of a Fusion Drive volume. Fusion Drive is designed to work with an internal hard disk drive and internal flash storage.
Boot Camp Assistant in OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 and earlier does not support 3TB hard drive configurations. Update to OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3 or later to use the 3TB configurations.

so in a word out of a nutshell fushion drive must buy preconfigured by Apple b4 leavin the factory..ole yes is yr mac 10.83 above prefrerably 10.84

try resetting the SMC and see if that helps? also see if the issue occurs in safe boot as there could be some 3rd party apps that are blocking the ext HDD from mounting automatically.
