Hello all!

I'm a complete hardware noob thus need your help in building a rig.

It'll be mainly used for gaming, hopefully at medium-high settings for the latest games. I also wish to be able to run several programs concurrently without lag (e.g. twitch on second monitor while gaming on the main monitor).

Budget ~1.3k excluding monitor/mouse/keyboard. Willing to stretch more IF really needed. Also, I'd need to buy from a shop & not online shops as I require assembly.

Looking forward to your suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Copied this rig set-up from adrainlee's sticky thread. Would it fit my requirements as above?

Intel Core i5 3570 & Asrock B75 PRO3 M ~ $364
or AMD FX-8350 & ASUS M5A78L-M LX3 ~ $399
G.Skill DDR3-1600MHz 8GB (2X4GB) ~ $77
Gigabyte R9 270X~ $309 or Gigabyte GTX 660 Ti ~ $
Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB or Crucial M500 120GB or Intel SSD 530 120GB
HDD 1TB for Storage ~ $82
Samsung SATA 24X DVD Rewriter ~ $24
Superflower HX 500 ~ $90
Ikonik EN2 ~ $55
Total ~ $14XX

EDIT: Just realised it's an old built

That build is obsolete. You might wish to specify the resolution of your main gaming monitor as it will determine the optimum GPU for your build. $face or some of the other HWZers will be more than happy to give you a detailed build.

I have no clue about monitor resolution haha! I'm planning to spend ~$300 on a monitor if that matters.

For $300, you are probably looking at 1920X1080. The RX 480 will be a good match then.

For the SSD, you can get a Zotac 480GB Premium at $179 from Lazada. It's a much better deal.

get at least a i5 k series cpu(and OC) if u want to watch twitch on second monitor and game concurrently. Other alternative is to setup livestreamer for twitch to reduce cpu usage that is coming from flash. It will still use quite a lot of cpu but about 1/3 of flash.

16gb of ram would be ideal as u would reach 8gb of ram usage easily with twitch.

Would the above recommendation be able to support (utilize?) 16GB RAM? Sorry if it's a dumb question haha!

For windows, can search in reddit, got mine for about 20+sgd with license key. Not sure how those licenses work tho but its working for me.

For accessories, I would advise to research and always get monitor first, second mouse, third keyboard.
Mouse and kb are easier to upgrade so get the biggest expense out unless you know got upcoming promos.
