Haswell i7 chip availability

Hi, anyone knows if the Haswell i7 chip is available for purchase in SG? Read many reviews about it increasing the battery life, thinking of replacing the old i5 chip in my laptop.

Your laptop has a swappable CPU socket? Most are soldered on. Next, the ones on sale are desktop parts, not the mobile parts - different packaging, thermal requirements, power requirements, etc. Laptop BIOS is usually hardcoded to one CPU type.

Desktop version (LGA1150 socket): Haswell-DT
Mobile/Laptop version (PGA socket): Haswell-MB

Or does your laptop use desktop socket specs? Then it must be really fat!

Not so sure about the socket, from what my friend told me its possible to change? I guess he is referring to the one you mentioned.

Hahaha, my laptop now is quite fat I guess? 14 inch and 2.1kg with battery, not exactly light. I think its time for me to change to an ultrabook

What model laptop? Then you can easily see if it has a swappable CPU.

that is actually quite normal for today's laptop. highly doubt u can swap it out but if u manage to pls share

Pardon me if I am wrong, but my understanding is that Haswell has a different pin count on both desktop and laptop. So even if your laptop have a socket to replace, it will not run. It may not even fit in there in the first place.

In short, you will need to change your laptop if you wanna get a Haswell processor.

The main issue, IF he even has a swappable CPU socket, is that it's impossible to buy the mobile parts in normal retail.

You would need to go to your laptop manufacturer and see if they offer a "haswell upgrade package" etc.

Its nice to be thin and light but usually such ultrabook is low performance. High performance notebook is usually thick.

med-high perf notebook can be thin and light.. but they will have heat issues
