hdd issue

Hi, pls advise .. my external hdd initially propmt me to reformat when I try to open.i try reboot my pc n after tat the doc inside my hdd all gone but from properties, u can stil see e space consume by the documents.n also the name of the hdd becomes default drive E instead of the initial name .. anyon knw whats the causes n anyway to retrieve it ?

can try recuva and recover the files... usually reformat only removes the file index of your hdd, but doesn't actually delete the files in your hdd...
