Since you visited so many times, able to tell what else need to bring along with HDD?

Online register your WD/HGST HDD straight after you received your new purchased drive. Same RMA place for both HGST/WD.

Before visiting, submit your RMA request online. Best to print the RMA receipt then bring the drive down. If dun print the receipt, can log on using the computer there (remember clear browser cache), the CSO will print for you, sign, 1-for-1 replace for you. No questions asked.

The bulk of my replacement was during the WD SMR/CMR saga period. Gotten my “supposedly SMR” drives fully replaced which are used for building zpools (ZFS) for production and home. That period is one of the worst with my zpools reporting errors/failures on the SMR drives almost a few times every week, and not knowing the actual cause.

Yup. Previously, WD customer service allowed the RMA with the caveat that it is a one-time exception.

I heard that WD is stricter nowadays. Someone PMed me some time ago to say that his RMA request got rejected. So YMMV ....
Hi sorry to bump this thread.

Got my WD HDD in the UK just before COVID exploded during uni exchange. Was selling around 180 quid for a 12TB drive.

Drive just failed a few days ago without warning. Contacted WD and they refused to create an exception to RMA from SG. They said must have UK residential address in order to RMA. I told them I am no longer staying there so they told me too bad, llst.

Anybody who was able to create an out of region exception to RMA?

Just register with WD Singapore and contact Cust Svc to create an out-of-region exception for you. Much easier to RMA with Singapore rather than UK.

I did the registration on WD Singapore. As mentioned, I asked for out of region exception but WD rejected saying they don't have this policy anymore.

Really quite Sianz cuz thought can just drop off at toa payoh as always.

Did you call in or did you email them?

email, but that was quite a few years back. I haven't needed to RMA a HDD in more than 10 years :)

I also had the same initial hope. I think it's their internal team doing the blocking of the request.

Noted.

Anyway, I should also mention that WD cust svc subsequently sent me an email with a support case number should I need to do an RMA.

Just pray when the actual rma comes... They will entertain lol. I also have a few WD Red Pros... Can fight with Seagate ironwolf pro series.. just unlucky that the one that failed was a HGST DC 510...

I don't dare to touch a Seagate drive from the used market these days in the wake of the chia mining/smart tampering scandal... Even ironwolf pros not spared.

I kinda lost my fight with WD, they said either ship it back to UK or get lost.

I am gonna take the plunge. Keeping my fingers crossed, see how it goes.
