I stumbled upon this post and i found the quote very meaningful.
Below is the post that i saw.
I want to thank Joshua Foo. He made me realised many things in life, and one of them is to know where I should stand and how to stand firm...
I was 16 when I joined a secret society. I started to pick up smoking, drink and play truancy, and failed all my exams. But ever since I join the secret society, I've been paying my headman protection fees in order to stay with him. It went on for almost 2 years. Till one day I didn't have money to pay him anymore and he threatened to whack me if I didn't pay. I was so scared I went home to steal my parents’ money. I felt bad and guilty at that point. Once I even sell my Samsung S3 my mum gave me just to pay him, but I told him this will be the last time and wanted to quit the gang. He slapped my face and threaten me again that if i do so, i'll be in deep trouble. So I continue my stay, pondering if I made the right move from the start.
One night at a disco with my headman, he saw a familiar face and shouted Lei Gong. At that point I was really amazed as I swear I've heard of his name and stories a million times even before I join the gang. Everyone was talking about him like those hong kong gu huo zai. Even my classmates heard of him too. I'm one of them who had look up to him. But I knew one thing about him was he managed to quit his gang. I was curious and eager to talk to him and really wanted to ask him for advices on how to quit a gang. That night I manage to get his number before he left. The following night, I called him and went out personally to meet him for a few times to talk about the problem I was facing. I was desperate and I asked him for help. Due to his history, my headman had no choice and later let me quit the gang without any consequences.
Joshua told me this that i will remember for life, "He who knows not where he stands in life will never stand up in life". Those words had given me a huge impact on my life. I was very lost, but his words help me know who i am and what i have today, a son with good parents. Thank you Joshua Foo for all that you have done for me.
