heat sinks for gpu

Hi there again.I've been running my gpus on water for a while now and they are only only partial water blocks so the vrms are exposed,i've tried placing heatsinks on them but the adhesive is either bad or just doesn't stick very well.

The copper heatsinks dropped a few times,causing a short a few times already.There are the heatsinks really necessary?

Use alcohol swipes to wipe the oiled area. Use a adhesive thermal pad. Wipe clean the copper heatsink. If the thermal pad is oily wash it with soap. Give it a bit of massage with soap and rinse off wipe dry. After which stick it together. Or alternative apply very tiny dot of thermal paste. The word is tiny and just the heatsink.

The reason why it cant stick properly is because the vrms have a bit of oily surface.

Thanks but i already did those before hand,at least if they drop when i'm using i can shut off immediatly but if they drop at night,some serious damage might occur.I'll try that again and see if it works the 3rd time

I use thermal epoxy but it's hard to remove once you use it.

Put heat-sinks on with slight pressure for 10 seconds, then let epoxy cure for 1 hour or so before putting the card back into PC.

Water block -> hard overclock -> VRM heats to 120+ -> card life dramatically shortened. Still need some air to move across the heat-sinks to reduce the heat though.

Alternatively. you can try to re-use the metal plate with thermal pads from the stock cooler, cut it up and secure/screw back pieces of the plate with the pad over the VRM...

Then you should look at 3M splicing tape. Ask shadow84 i gave him some the other day. It helps insulate the components yet able to use thermal pad to stick on it. Go check it out.

That's why I avoid buying 2nd-hand GPU. All these shortened life-span cards. With the digital mining craze, even worse.

Oh well, there are always the greater fools for buying such items and mining digital currency.

green camp one is okay, because you can't adjust the voltage, oc at clock voltage shouldn't do much damage
