If one is traveling like army style 7 ppl can fit into a 7-8 ppl van
Smaller easier to handle.
Read their driving manual just in case they have road signs u are not familiar here.

Hiace is not much bigger than a sienna, I drive one daily. Take 1-2 days to get use to the size. Sits lower so drive over bump like a army veh.

Use your turn signals never hurt to be considerate
If you not used to long distance it’s good to take breaks every 2hr or so just to be safe. If u driving nite out in the wild watch for wild animals crossing.

Class 3 is more than enough. You can email the rental company to double confirm if in doubt. These more info on campervan in NZ in this forum you can read up on.
One thing for sure, you won't regret it (provided your travel mates all steady type)

You mentioned afew still age 20. So others already 21? You just need a main driver & co-drivers (optional) for one camper.

Hi yes thanks for the input! Yeah we are all around 21 and 20! However since we are doing quite some driving it would be nice to have more than 2 drivers. However I would also like to ask, I am the only driver our of first year probation, while the rest aren't. Will it matter when renting vehicles?

Toyota Hiace is much easier to drive.
Class 3 no problem.

April is autumn season start.
Bring jacket and other light clothing.
Travelling on the go have to travel light.
You all are not in army so do think army style.

Driving can be easier exceed speed limit.
Stay below 100 km/h.
Road condition is clear.
Do drive left at all times, especially on highway.
Do not force to go out onto highway.
Once on highway do pick up speed or being hit behind.
This is not sg style.
If the road do not have divider, upon encountered incoming vehicle do keep left.

Thanks for the advice! Will drive safely

Yes. If you look at your licence, class 3 allows you to drive vehicles up to 2500kg. A Hiace, according to Wikipedia, is 2100kg, so should be OK.

But keep in mind that the heavier and bigger the vehicle, the bigger the blindspots and the harder it is to handle, due to size and greater momentum. Drive with great care.

Yes understood. Will test drive it around before hitting the road :)

I can only find either a 7 seater Toyota Estima online or the next bigger thing would be a 10 seater Hiace. It would be nice to have the extra space in the minibus too! Thanks

Hiace commuter is 10+1 seater.
That is driver 3 with behind 2+2+3++1 seat folded.
Should be fine as able to store behind under the back seats, as back open.
Driver seat view higher than normal passenger cars.
Meanwhile try driving as it may be manual, option.

Nice photos...

Do note that don't forget about the LEG space.

Long distance driving and seating required some spacious space in front for the legs to rest at comfort.

Depend on your guys how long are your legs you need to consider this.

Also on as size of your built, you need to ensure the vehicle is suitable to your needs.

Why don't you guys go to see the cars to test drive, as pretend to be interested.

In this way, you can ensure you get the correct vehicle for all.
