Deepcool Captain240 AIO Cooler.

Ok. My PC suddenly shut down this morning. No error code no blue screen, just shut down and no restart.

Went into BIOS and see that my CPU temp is 70+.

Apply new paste and resit the pump.
Still same, in the range of 70+ deg C.

So I suspect the pump gone liao.
Now I use stock Intel HSF. Temp in the 60+ region.

Q1: Is there a way to test if the pump is really faulty? Or is above symptoms a dead giveaway?

Q2: Stock HSF temp in the region of 60+ is normal?

Q3: Is Deepcool a lousy cooler? Should I change to Corsair? :(

Dont use bios as a tool to check. Load to windows. Download realtemp.

Check.

Roy, thing is... when Windows is loaded, it is very very sluggish and retarded. And after 10 seconds or so it'll shut down.

imo
1. up lorry already
2. u overclock?
3. used a deepcool air, not sure about aio, was ok for the price. if u got budget for new aio can look at swiftech, their aio can expand into full loop, just hooted ytd :) otherwise the h100i gtx or the h110 will do fine, heard the first on load u will feel u standing beside f16 jet.

If your Intel stock fan can even hit 60deg, dont you think there is an issue?

Did you mount correctly? If yes. Then high chance your inside TIM could have dried up.

Might wanna check with intel for warranty.

Whats the processor you using? It is possible that inside the thermal paste could have dried up. After deliding a few processors, the worse one would be haswell chips. Its completely dried up and at most of the time it will heat up even on stock.

If really cannot, i suggest you RMA it with intel.

It's a 4790K...

How's the RMA like? Will it take long?

Most likely, the haswell thermal paste is totally dried. Just call intel.

Once you call them and provide them your chip info. They will ask you what is the issue with the chip. Just tell them that you are facing high temps. And you get extremely sluggish performance before you get into main windows. Also tell them that your chip even on idle is at 60deg and would everytime shut down once it overheats.

They will probably ask you for a screenshot to be sent to them.

Once done, within the next 2 working days they will send you an email on how to pack your cpu, and print out all the necessary documents needed. There will be an airway bill copy for you to put it outside the box for custom to see.

Once you are ready, you can call fedex that the number has been provided by them. Arrange a day for them to collect from your house. After that you just need to wait for your chip to return.

In all the process takes about 8-9 working days in total.

Just call intel and provide them the screen shot. From there they will guide you.

plug the pump into one of your mobo pins. it should pick up rpm. if too low or no reading, means the pump is spoiled. Contact Deepcool dealer for RMA. Pump failure happens to any brand.

Also some AIO don't mount very well, given the nature of the mounting bracket. so if pump is working, then likely to be the way u mount. unfortunately, no easy solutions to this.

Is there a possibility that your mobo cpu fan header up lorry? Most likely is the Tim like royfrosty said but no harm in diagnosing.

u oc the cpu? Try everything at default and see how it goes

Hey, thanks for the replies.

Nope, I had keep it running at stock clock. BIOS settings are at default too other than the usual changes = XMP, Fan speeds.

Previously, the pump is connected to the CPU_OPT header and IIRC, the mobo does not read the speed of that header.

But AIDA64 report CPU_OPT speed right?

I remembered that I saw a figure of 5000+ rpm before from AIDA64.

So... now that the stock HSF is connected at CPU_FAN, can I just plug in the pump into CPU_OPT and see the speed through AIDA64?

Sorry ah, just want to make sure I don't break anything... :s13:

most likely is the mounting. Try different angles. My Deepcool Maelstrom can only mount properly at one angle. Tubes nearest GPU.

It's damn lame but that's the way it is. Deepcool AIO is not very good cos specs stated 2000+rpm. But mine and yours get 5k reading. Absurd. Still temps should be low so i believe it's mounting.

Don't think it the mounting orientation leh... cause all along the temp is fine. Just one fine day the temp goes up until CPU shut down I think.

Your pump is connected via CPU_OPT and AIDA64 reports 5K+ rpm also?

I will call Intel and ask about the 60°C idle temp on stock fan.

But meantime I will also like to test if the AIO cooler is working like it's suppose to. :o

if say max clocks (and vcore) doesn't downclock at idle, shud idle temp with stock intel hs be lower than 60c...?

From my understanding. Even on intel Heatsink. The temps on idle should not breach 60deg on idle on realtemp. And there is no way one could mount wrongly an intel heatsink unless one did not push the pins into the mounting holes.

On idle the highest it should go for ihs is around 49deg-50deg.

If thats the case, i highly doubt that his ihs is faulty nor the deepcool aio.
