Hi friends, hope you can help me with my PC. My tech knowledge is only so so :p

Inherited a PC from my friend, working well.
I7-2600, 4GB ram, MSI-MS7673 mobo (dunno exact model)

I added one stick of 4GB ram and changed the old graphics card to a nvidia 660ti. The old ram was in slot #2, the new ram is in #3 (I tried #1&3, #2&4 but PC won't boot).

First time I powered up no probs, didn't use for very long...but the PC could tahan full format and reinstallation of win10.

Next day, initially when powering up, the fans would spin for 3sec then die. This went on for a few tries, then spontaneously recovered. But since then, the PC would shut down after 15-25min of usage. I check the temp in bios and using HWMonitor..nothing above 50degC.

What could be the possible fault here? Thanks in advance

Both old n new RAM are from Kingston. The old ram is a low profile 4GB ddr1333. The new one is ddr1600 valueram I think.

GPU is Leadtek...taken from another PC. Was working well before it was taken out.

My PSU is a seasonic 620GB

Your situation sounds like my old pc.

I have 3 rams installed. The system will power on for like 3-5 secs before restarting again and again.

After 10 mins or so, the pc will be able to boot up normally into windows.

What I did you was to re sit the rams. Den found out 1 of the ram is faulty. Once i removed that particular ram, everything is back to normal

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Tried using only the DDR-1333 alone or the -1600 alone, but my PC still auto shutdown.

It seems like the less time I give the PC to rest after it auto-shutdown, the sooner the next auto-shutdown occurs. That sounds like an overheating issue doesn't it? But my bios doesn't reflect it =(

Could it be my PSU? I'm just hoping it's not MOBO, cos replacing will be a little more expensive.

Cheapest mobo for that processor is $165 brand new sold by this guy: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/c...lutions-asus-networking-products-5344330.html

If you want to try replacing psu first, go buy from lazada FSP about $70 before discount

(Money) die lah....

If I can get the Asrock Mobo for free, would you all recommend buying a new processor, or keep my i7-2600 and just change the mobo?

still need to see if u need such high end cpu or not, if dun need get a G3240 or G3250 or G3258 or G3260. u might need to look around SLS for these chips. as they are less powerful and should be ok for normal usage. (gaming not sure)

Hi starbuy, i recently faced the same situation as you. Tried reseating all the components, switched RAMs, changed PSU but the problem still prevailed. Finally decided to bring the PC down to a neighborhood computer shop and got a diagnosis - motherboard failure :()

But hey, it was all good reason to get a new desktop =D

Its your MOBO. If PSU spoil, you wont be able to turn on. You already say, the less time you give the PC to rest, the faster it will shut down.

BIOS wont reflect it, the fans not working to cool down the processor. Once the processor is heated up, the processor will spoil.

There are 2 ways that the MOBO will spoil, 1 is when u on, no screen at all, but sometimes can be RAM or graphics card spoil. 2 is when u on, your processor fan not working. Yours is the 2nd option.
