PC failed to boot up, CPU fan turning but no display. Suspect is due motherboard failure. I’m stuck in the junction whether to by new CPU + Motherboard or just replace the motherboard + SSD.
Original PC spec:
AMD Phenom II X4 925 + Biostar A880G+
DDR3 2GB x 2
WD Black 500
GPU: Built in
Case + PSU Andyson 500W
If budget is SGD 240, which option is preference in term of performance. This PC is only for Facebook and internet surfing. I’m open to other option too..

Option 1:
a. Replace motherboard MSI 760GM-P23 (FX) - SGD 65
b. Samsung Evo 250GB – SGD 165\
Total Cost SGD 230
Question: Can Samsung Evo work on SATA 2 motherboard?

Option 2:
a. New motherboard and CPU , ASROCK H81M-DGS + I3 4150 – SGD 209

I think option 1 will out performance the option 2 due to SSD but the only concern is whether the SATA 2 can support SSD with SATA 3 and will it cause bottleneck which result similar performance as option 2.

Thanks...

Since u r changing out some parts, u might as well upgrade to 2x 4GB DDR3 rams or a single stick of 8GB which will result in the overall speed boost to yr rig.

No display? Your iGPU on the motherboard is dead.

Option 3:
Buy a GT 610 for $70+ or a Sapphire R5 230 for $69.

Can bring your rig and go to PC Care & Solution at #02-32 and ask Nigel to lend you spare RAM and GPU to troubleshoot your system.

Haha... so no problem in compatible.. Good.
Do u think option 1 ll out performance option 2 due to ssd although CPU is slower in option 1.

Option 1 is a good and cheap solution to your problem but SATA 2 may limit the full potential of your SSD.
