Dear all, I am a computer newbie and looking to DIY build my first custom gaming PC. The games I would play would be similar to Baldur's Gate 3 or Disco Elysium. My budget is SGD 2.5k and ok to stretch to 3k+ if needed.

May I have some recommendations on a suitable build list? Also looking to future proof so I would like to ensure I can play future games for the next 5 years.

Would be nice to have one of those aesthetic gaming PC builds - optional.

Hi Nightraven, thanks for your reply. In your opinion, would enthusiast gaming rig be sufficient? or its better to get the high performance productivity + gaming rig?

also, i see you put the suppliers in the post. that means its recommended to purchase the part from that particular store due to price?

lastly, for computer cases, i saw you listed a few in the spoiler tag. how do i know which one is able to accommodate the recommended rig?

neither of the games u listed are hard to run, and can easily achieve 4k60 with the enthusiast rig. u can go for more aesthetic parts with the remaining budget (the recos usually only suggest the cheapest parts that are decent, so no weight on aesthetics), or upgrade either the cpu (eg to 7800x3d) or gpu (eg to 4070ti/7900xt). i dont think the extra spent on the intel platform in the high perf reco will be worth it for gaming, though if u can stretch ur budget u can go for the 7900xtx (but is quite overkill imo).

yes, though these are only local shops in sim lim square. if u are willing and able to source from elsewhere for a better price, then that is a good alternative too.

most have decent compatibility and should accommodate most of the recommendations. once u have settled on a list of parts, u can look up the case webpage for information on compatibility. things u should look out for include cpu cooler height and gpu length and as long as ur parts dont exceed those limits u should be fine.

Hi Nightraven, thank you for your response. In your opinion, is it better to self assemble the rig? Or should I go to sim lim and request for someone to build it for me?

And by aesthetic parts, what do you mean? Could you give an example?

Also, which website are you referring to for case website? apart from cpu cooler height and gpu length, anything else i should take into consideration?

if u know how to diy by all means u can purchase the parts from local or amz or where ever then build the pc.
else if u really lazy.. then u can go in to the shop in sls like
pct
tradepac
laser
fuwell
just to name a few
ask for the parts u want and pay a fee for them to build the pc for u

aesthetic parts meaning... like RGB lights or all black build or all white build..
mb black or white or gpu in white

u can start here

there's no one right answer for this, depends on what u mean by better. if u ask me, diy is better cos more fun when picking out parts and building, but if u ask somebody else, they might value the convenience of having the shop suggest and build for them more.

its like coming up with a theme for the build. some simple ones are either all black or all white builds.

u can also go for a single brand build to have a consistent aesthetic.

full black is easiest since many parts are black. white parts generally cost a premium, as with certain brands too like asus' rog strix.

the website that advertises the case u want, ie product page. for eg, this is the webpage for the corsair 4000d, while this is for the lancool 216, and u will be able to view their clearances under their respective specifications sections. just make sure all ur parts fit within those clearances that the manufacturer mentions.

Hi Nightraven, I wanted to get your 2 cents. I received the below recommendation from a pc builder for a quote of 2.1k SGD for all white gaming pc. I ended up going with the route of purchasing a build pc from online sellers due to various reasons.

I had some concerns about the PSU reccomended as there were not much reviews. The person told me that as long as rating 80+ is sufficient and that the specs is sufficient for my level of gaming. When I did my research, many people suggested to use the psu tier list or purchase a psu from a reputable brand. Do you have any suggestions if I should replace the PSU or any other parts recommended?

RX 7800 XT Set
1. AMD 5 7500F RYZEN 3.7GHZ SOCKET AM5 - Bundle
2. ASRock B650M PG LIGHTNING WIFI AX MOTHERBOARD AM5
3. ADATA XPG LANCER BLADE RGB DDR5 6000 CL30 (2x16GB) - White
4. LEXAR NM710 1TB NVME Gen4 (5000R/4000W)
5. MONTECH AP 750W 80+ PSU
6. NZXT H9 Elite White ATX CASING
7. XFX QICK319 RX 7800XT 16GB - White
8. Deepcool LE720 WHITE AIO 3 x ARGB FAN, 250W TDP
9. Tecware Flex PSU Extension Set - White

ur psu concern is warranted. 80+ rating alone is not a reliable indicator of longevity (see gigabyte 80+ gold psus exploding), so u are right that u should look for reviews of the particular unit u are buying to get an idea if it is a good buy. unfortunately it seems this seller is trying to pull a fast one on u, there is definitely enough budget in a 2k build to get a known good psu instead of an obscure and seemingly basic one. if this whole setup is 2.1k like u mentioned, it is not very good value for money overall, u can refer to my recommendation in the second post, it has all round better parts for a cheaper price. if u don't want to diy that, u can pm me and i can build it for u :o

Do state if you going for mITX, mATX or ATX build.

You want to game at 4K or 1080p or 1440p?

Your budget include monitor or just the PC?

I just built a nice ITX rig for under $2k with a brand new GeForce 3090 and a Ryzen 7500F.
