Need help and advice.

My son is 19 years old this year, going for his Higher Nitec course in April and duration is 2 yrs. By then he completed his course 21 years old .
Some history background of my son, he got anger management problems during school time in pri and secondary school days. we have go thru IMH.
Now i worry for him on his anger when he enlist for army in 2 year time. i want to found out how to downgrade him due anger management issue. i need to go IMH specialist again? or i can seek outside specialist. i am clueless so need someone expertise on this.

It'd be helpful with a specialist memo to make the case that's for sure. It is up to the medical review board how your boy would be rated (for his PES status) after the battery of tests had been done during the medical screening, questionaire, and the specialist memo. So yes, you could well make for a case but it is still up to the Board to decide.

FYI there are plenty of folks in there with anger management issues that somehow slipped through the cracks, or basically ignored by the higher ups. I had witnessed up to fisticuffs, and things being damaged, to the point I'm not even surprised to find ppl do act out like that sometimes. Thankfully no more harm than that. (Scariest: ppl with anger management issues signing on and becoming the leaders, running the show; plenty of them)

But I understand your concern regardless. I assume the main one would be that he could grievously hurt someone in a fit of anger, especially with weapons issued, and the aggravating environment full of (sometimes unreasonable) pressures that is the Army?

Is best to get a memo from the same specialist as it adds credibility given that there will be a history of it rather than going to get from a new one just cause of enlistment.

additionally, IMH is “govt” specialist, and probably the specialist they might be sending him to if they need further opinion. So if the memo comes from IMH, maybe they will even skip that.

lastly, doing all these doesn’t mean I’ll be downgraded.

Hi,
My main concern is he can’t control when ppl provoke him and he will use the fit of his anger using weapon or fist to hurt others. This happen during pri/sec school days. He really give someone a punch. Thanks for your information, it really help me.

that's why it's important for a trained medical professional to make the assessment.

@cutie1313 Try going back to IMH again since they already have record of ur son being an outpatient before. Tell the doc there that u hope that when he enlists in 2 yr's time... they can refer him to an army doctor/psychologist... they used to have one in CMPB depot road last time but I dunno if he is still stationed there.

The only way is to get memo or report from psychiatrist in IMH. explain to IMH about yr son going to army.

If you are looking for exemption, don't be hopeful.

The army may post yr son to do admin work in a non provoking environment.

Tbh I think is more important to fix the underlying cause.

Even if can exempt from NS (unlikely), he still has to live a life.

Unless he doesn’t interact with others.
