[HELP] Laptop Display

Hi, I have a old Dell Inspiron 1420 that recently started having display problems. The laptop would boot up perfectly fine, you can hear the Vista startup sound playing in the background, but the screen shows nothing. It lits up from black to grey, but there is nothing on the screen showing at all, any idea or help would be appreciated.. Or any recommendation on where to go for repair or anything would help too. Thanks.

Try connecting to external monitor and see if there is display, it probably the LCD inverter or backlight bulb that is faulty.

i dont have an externel monitor to try on

however a few days back it started to get some error message, some nmi parity error thing..
