Hello to all you awesome HWZ forumers.
I am very new here. In fact, I was born only today.

Please indulge me as I type you a short story:

In March this year, something terrible happened.

My older PC died on me and I went into 'panic-spray' mode(as how they call it in CS when you kan cheong).

In all my haste, I traveled down to Sim Lim without any research or knowledge about PC building. (the only thing I knew was I had around $900 budget).

Basically I told the guy at fuwell my budget, and he built me what I have now on the right. Excluding the GPU(which I was using on my older PC), the monitor and the speakers.

Fast forward 4 months later to July.

Recently I have been pondering about the following:

- Running games like Watch Dogs, Bioshock Infinite, BF4 etc on High/Ultra at 1080p and getting maybe 40-60fps. (Not possible with my 7770, it was a decent gpu 2 years ago. It's still decent but games are getting demanding)

- Video recording, editing, rendering etc.

I have about a $1000-$1200 budget to play with this time and after doing some slight research. I hit a wall.
The only thing I figured out was I can save some money by migrating the PSU + SSHD + RAM over to the new PC.
I also recently ordered a Samsung 840 Evo 120gb SSD from overseas and should be arriving in a few days.
I would really appreciate your humble opinions.
They are:

1) Gtx 760 OR R9 280 OR something else?

2) What motherboard should I upgrade to? (Single monitor, for now)

3) Should I change my case?

4) What else on the right looks like an abomination and should be changed/upgraded?

-

Any feedbacks will be greatly appreciated(kinda need all the help I can get).

Thank you.

1) get a r9 290 around 600-700

2) wont make a diff unless you change your cpu to a k processor

3) not really too important for now. you could get a case with dust filters if you want like the fractal design arc midi

Everything else looks fine. But heres some options you can consider.

1) Get 8 gb more ram to make total of 16gb. Helps with your recording, editing, rendering

2) Change your motherboard and cpu to an i7 and z97 board. Helps with your recording, editing, rendering. will cost at least 600+ for this upgrade. Wont make much difference for watch dogs, but would speed up your video work. Weather this upgrade is worth will depend on how hardcore your video work is. If you do it for a living etc, go for the upgrade.

yeah i figured an i7 will help with the vid issues. but do you think an i5 4670k would be sufficient? maybe with a little help from the 16gb ram?

also, would the r9 290 be too much of an overkill for me? i'm not very greedy tbh i don't really need games to be getting good fps at ultra settings on 1080p or higher res. perhaps decent fps at high 1080p .

plus if i went for both the i7 and the r9 290 it kinda leaves me 0 room to maneuver in other minor upgrades.

you know, i always found a corsair casing with a window to be sexy. haha.

thanks for your humble opinion i'm definitely taking the i7/16gb ram into consideration!

A i7 4770 will be better because it has 8 threads as compared to i5 4670K's 4 threads.

R9 290 is overkill. A GTX760 or R9 280 is enough if you are not demanding.

You can always add sound card, video capture card, extra pcie USB and many more.

My thoughts will be get another 8gb ram, upgrade to a 280x and get a i7. Mobo just leave it ba no point upgrading unless you wan go either dual GPU or overclocking
