My current contract with Singtel 500mpbs fibre plan (Connected with Singtel black ONR and Router) Contract has ended recently, and I've been offered the following options to re-contract with them. I would be staying with the same ISP however I'm not sure which is a better option here.

Opt 1:
2Gbs Mesh Plan ( $73.58/mth) A pair of Askey Mesh WiFi 6 extenders
6 mths free subscription

Opt 2:
1Gbs Mesh Plan ( $55.45/mth) A pair of Askey Mesh WiFi 5 extenders
6 mths free subscription

Opt 3:
1Gbs Mesh Plan ( $63.48/mth) A Single Linksy E9450/ AX5400 WiFi 6 router
6 mths free subscription

I'm relocating to a 3-room BTO installed with LAN points in every room and living hall. Not really a heavy user, mainly for office zoom, internet browsing, movie streaming, TV box, also has Philips Hue smart lighting system which requires a Philips Hue Bridge and 2 Google nest mini setup. Would like to have a good network coverage in the whole house with no dead spot.

Not an IT person here hence would really appreciate if someone could enlighten or give me some opinions.

I go option 3.
1gbps with ax 5400. If signal weak I just buy another node to create a mesh network. But is cost another $299-310.

I vote for Option 3 as well. The Linksys E9450 is better than Askey Wifi 5 or Wifi 6 extender.
S$63.48/month x 18/24 = S$47.61 /month

This recontract offer is the same as the new sign-up.

Much appreciated for all the suggestions. Likely would go with option 3.

On reading through the forum, I've also come across the term on Bridged versus Non-Bridged with existing ONR. Would like to understand more on the difference and is there be any concerns on that? How to tell whether my existing is which one?

Currently my Singtel 500mpbs has the following setup:
- Fibre point to ONR,
- ONR to another Black Singtel Gigabytes Router.
- Singtel Gigabytes Router connected to Singtel TV box

I'm quite confused is that the norm with 2 routers connected for all Singtel set up? And how will the set up going to be like with the Linksys Wi-Fi 6 router?

I'm thinking of placing just the ONR in the DB box while the router connected via Lan in other areas.
Where would be the best set up to place the router so as to avoid any dead spot ( particularly service yard, kitchen, toilets) in the house? Below are where lan points are available:
1) 2x lan points in living room each corner of the window ( Mio TV box will be here)
2) Common room Lan point (centre of the house)
3) Master room with a mounted TV
4) Bomb Shelter

And where would be the best place to put the Phillips Hue Bridge for the Smart lights?

Being a new subscriber, you no longer have an option so don't need to think about the ONR part. If the ONR part bothers you, you should look at other ISP instead.

If you are indeed going ahead with ST, then ONR will be inside DB box and connected to the LAN hub linked to the rest of the LAN points. After which you just need to decide where to install your Access Point ( center of house if you only have 1 ) & MIO TV stb.

Have recontracted the Singtel 1Gbps plan with Linksys E9450 router and currently has the following setup:

DB box:
Fibre point > ONR
ONR Lan1 > Living room Lan port

Living room:
Lan port > Linksys router WAN
Linksys Lan 1 > Singtel TV box

Trying to do setting in the Linksys Config page but stuck with 2 selection for ONR, how to know which one to follow base on the above setup?
1)Set up mode for ONR (Bridge Mode) as Bridge
2) Set up mode for ONR with Bridge Mode (Manual)

Did a trial and error, notice my Wi-Fi signal will be gone when I off the Linksys router although ONR still shows Internet signal solid green. Is that consider as (1) or (2)?

Also realise Singtel TV box only work with (1), not (2). Anyone knows why?

Would also like to seek some advises on how to do the plug-in for these devices that will be placed at different area, so as to make use of all the lan port in each room to do a wired connection sharing the same network.

Is there a need to do a wired backhaul for the Linksysv
router in the living room?

- DB box : ONR
- Living Room: Linksys Router parent node, ST TV box
- Common room: Phillips Hue Bridge (smart light)
- Master room: Linksys child node router

Yes your connection will work. Make sure your Linksys E9450 parent node is in AP mode.

ONR is the main router.

ONR -- main E9450 in AP mode -- SingTel TV box

ONR -- E9450 mesh node

Thank you for the advice.

May I understand is there any different using the ONR versus Linksys as main router?

In terms of Wi-Fi strength will there be any difference?

How can I do the setup such that the Linksys becomes the main router?

Oh and also do I need to have a switch in the DB box or I could just use the ONR ports to connect the cables from the various room?

It is not possible for you to make the Linksys as the main router. SingTel ONR is the main router.

It does not affect your WiFi performance.

You have to configure the main Linksys E9450 in AP mode in order to get the SingTel TV box and Ethernet backhaul to work. You can not configure the Linksys in router mode (Double NAT).

You do not need the switch. The ONR is the main router and you can use its 4 LAN ports to connect to various rooms.

Hi melody, do allow us to share that you will need to choose Option 1 to connect to your STB as per the instructions from the guide. In addition, the WI-FI signal comes from the Linksys router and not the ONR. Hence, you will need to switch on your Linksys router in order to surf the internet.

If you still have further clarifications on the Linksys E9450 router, you may reach out to our 24 hour Linksys hotline at 8001204280. Thank you.

Dear Singtel,

Thanks for the reply. Basically Singtel ONR has no wireless function. It is the main router for the home network. Linksys E9450 needs to work in Bridge Mode (or AP mode) to get the Singtel STB connected to it working.

I find out that the Linksys E9450 Training and Installation document reallly really poorly written. Maybe you want to talk to your technical side to updae the document.

In fact Linksys website is okay.
https://www.linksys.com/sg/support-article/?articleNum=317681
But Singtel PDF document is rather poor.
https://www.singtel.com/content/dam...routers/singnet/Linksys_E9450_Setup_Guide.pdf
In the document, it mentions the following
1) Set up mode for ONT (Singtel Profile) as RG

This is okay. Linksys E9450 is the main router.

2) Set up mode for ONR (Bridge Mode) as Bridge

What is the ONR (Bridge Mode)? Apparently the ONR is not in bridge mode, rather it is still the main router for the home network. Linksys E9450 needs to be set up in bridge mode.

3) Set up mode for ONR with Bridge Mode (Manual)

Again, the ONR is not in bridge mode, rather it is still the main router for the home network. And this mode will make the Linksys E9450 operating in router mode. The result is Double NAT.

Hi Singtel,

Thanks for reaching out. I agreed on what Xiaofan has pointed out of the the wording especially on point 2 and 3 ONR usual guide. The wording sounds really confusing.

When ST technician came to do installation, he said that ST do not allow setting ONR as bridge mode. Yet when I read the Linksys usual guide, it states otherwise. Seems to meant the ONR are set to Bridge mode.

When I spoke to Linksys technical Helpdesk, they also said that Linksys router will be the main router providing Wi-Fi signal, the ONR is just a modem. There is no wifi network if the Linksys router is off. I tried switching off only the Linksys router and Wi-Fi signal did got disconnected.
