MB compatibility with CPU goes by the socket. Your CPU is using LGA1155 socket. So all you have to do is to find another MB that accepts that socket. RAM shouldn't be a problem.

hey guys, i'm his friend here! helping him to check. based on his i7 3770, what would be a recent motherboard that will work?

basically im just wondering what are the brands and models of boards that hwz people now usually recommend to people building rigs. i've seen like asus h81m, and h97m.

any other brands to consider? thanks!!

For LGA 1155 socket, the best chipset you can get is Z77.. All those 8x 9x chipsets are for LGA 1150 which is for Haswell (e.g. i7 4790, etc)..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1155

Sadly brand new LGA 1155 motherboards are almost non-existent in our market anymore (correct me if I'm wrong) so you might have to look around for good second hand ones or hunt really hard for an old stock..

Like what royfrosty pointed out, what is the problem exactly? Not all problem are related to motherboard so you might wanna describe to us so that we can try to help.

If at the end of the day, you can't find a good LGA 1155 mobo, you can always sell the board and the processor (which is a fairly desirable processor) and get a brand new LGA 1150 chipset + processor altogether. The parts listed by your friend would work with the new mobo + processor

Erm... companies don't release new motherboards to support old cpu socket. (Not that I know of, at least)

H/Z80 and H/Z90 series use 1150 socket, your friend's 3770 uses 1155. Not compatible.

Hi all!
Thanks for all the replies

The problem goes like this -

When I turn on my PC, every boots up (fans/led) like normal
But it only lasts for 8secs, its like a revving engine and then dying.

It didnt manage to reach boot screen.

__Diagnostics__

The guy at diagnostics ran tests on the GPU the PSU ( which was the no.1 suspect then)
but found it wasnt the cause, then he swapped out my motherboard, with a in house stock mobo. And it manage to get to boot menu.

Thats was what went down so far. Haha

I'd guess that it's some BIOS issue.. I don't think there's a way for you to flash your BIOS without turning on though.. Do update if you manage to find some brand new LGA 1155 board, I'm keen to know
